Bandit Angel not eating (Apolemichthys arcuatus)

Hello

Last week I bought two Bandits and one clarion angel. Clarion well eating one Bandit picky the other one not eating yesterday. The day bevor yesterday he eats one ore two Mysis. The other about 5 every time. I feed 9 different frozen food two times and 4 different pallets 4 times a day. Also nori by clip on stone in the ground. The guys are not fat but in well condition. A experienced man told me I should go by living food. I also bought 3 tiny multifaciata from Vanuatu. They also didn't take my food an just picking by the stones. Living food is positive for this guy too I think. The Bandits are middle sized about 10 cm. The more active one eats better then the other.

Who have experience to bring the Bandits to eat (well)?

I bought them last week on Wednesday.

Greetings

Bandit Angel not eating (Apolemichthys arcuatus)

Try to feed them frozen clams on a half Shell or live brine In my experience bandit around 4" are harder to feed than < 4" hopefully yours don't waste away and start to eat

Multi bar are hard to feed too but if they are nipping at the rocks it's a good sign

Clarion are one of the easiest to feed and very hardy fish

Good luck

How did you convince the wife and even your family? Those fish cost a fortune when added up together! I agree with clams on the half shell, you could also go buy a frag of zoanthids, or live clams from a fishmonger. Maybe try putting pellets or other food on the zoanthids, and let the angels taste it and realize its food.

bandits can sometimes be tough to get eating, esp when very small or large...I would try fresh clam, cherry stones or little necks, leave it on the half shell...shrimp legs have worked...

clarion will eat anything and everything and are super easy fish to keep...just keep an eye on their aggression...

good luck,

ted

Hello Ted,

I ordered fresh clam, live artermia and something like small live mysis. Also somebody advice me Ocean Nutrition Frozen ANGEL Formula. Hope that works.

I'm not sure what you mean by cherry stones? You mean the stone of cherry? Or is it a synonymous?

Yes clarionensis is eat everything. And I understand what you mean with the aggression. He test the two navarchus and the bigger olivaceus. I will get more angels in the future so I hope I don't get a problem. Do you think clarion will work together with pairs of xanthopunctatos, conspicillatus, arcuatus, semifasciatus, diacanthus and navarchus? Or it is better to sell him? In this moment she change colour from juvenile to adult and is about 12 cm.

Greetings Torben

Hey Torben,

For frozen food I would try Chefzilla's Chowdown or Larry's Reef Frenzy..Ocean Nutrition is okay, nothing spectacular...but, if it works, use it!

Sorry, Cherry stones and Little necks are the specific types of clam I would use as food. Where are you located?

My clarion are fine with those other fish...

Hey Ted

Thanks for translation [emoji1]
Sorry for my bad English. I just use this language for holidays. [emoji6]
I'm located in Germany.
The most products you advise me aren't buyable in germany. Or have an other name.

No. Clarion will kill all competitors in the tank more than likely.
Have you reduced the temp? Bandits need cooler temps and often won't feed in warmer water.

One Bandit eat very well now. For the other one I just buy a living oyster for testing. Waiting for living artermia and Mysis. Should arrive today. A bomb of food for our little friend. But he pick at the stones that let me hope.

And I would argue that yours is the exception, not the rule, every clarion I've cared for has been borderline psychopath.

lol, I wish I was the first to do this...many of us have kept pairs, trios, or more without any real aggression issues, this is something I would never do with emps, passers, or queens...generally speaking, Clarion are not as aggressive as some other large angels.
Wen continues to breed them and the broodstock are in his pools with many other fish, angels, also of breeding size....
Clarion can be tough as juvies but only grow more mellow as they age...in addition to pairing off, they also form huge groups...they are still an alpha fish but the aggression is not out of control as they do well in crowded in tanks, Fenner said, "One note regarding this species that bears mentioning: other than incidental damage from opercular and fin spine altercations, purposely (over)crowding clarions does not result in outright, overt agonistic behavior or noticeable agitation/stress to the individuals involved. Of a necessity, our commercial ventures have required temporary (days to a few weeks) of high density. Allen's photo on p 293. illustrates that this is not a totally unnatural event either." I would not attempt this with many other types of angels...

Clrarion are still alpha fish and love big tanks but I would not place them on the "aggressive and maniacal" list that I would place emps, passers, and queens.
