I take it that is not Bill sitting on top of the Salt!

Hey, that's Jaymz Hetfield. Some call him "Het"!!

Is that one or two pallets worth??

This sounds dumb, but pouring that much salt in to an aquarium would just be pure happiness. In fact, if it were my tank, I would not let any workers do it- I would insist in puring each one myself. :)

My back is sore just thinking about pouring one third of those buckets pictured into the tank! :eek1: I would have to let the "workers" pour buckets 2 thru whatever in the tank. I would just get to add the first one in. :D

this is 2 of the 4 pallets needed to start the tank up. the next load will be gettingthere in a few weeks.

Maybe they looked at the latest salt tests by Eric B. Only visual data so far and misc. comments made by the authors but Red Sea and Reef Crystals appear to have had the best results. Very small study and of course the controversy.

no i discussed that study with bill right after MACANA. I went to bills house 2 days after that study had been released. bill had ordered his salt 2 weeks prior to the results being released. so that study had nothing to do with this its just personal preference and price per skid.

"No it's not."
as to this comment. it will take 4 skids to make enough salt water and to have extra for later. bill got a good deal buying the salt by the skid instead of by the pail. so why not get a bunch of it. it will take about 130-140 pails of salt to make up enough salt water to run the system. and the other 50-60 pails will be for water changes or maintaining salinity.
So now stop (what i feel) the RUDE comments and leave them for your personal threads. i am maintaining this thread for those who like to see big tanks built. this is an informational thread that can be closed at any time. envious is no reason for rudeness!:mad2:

Spazz, this looks like another winner! The thread seems to be quite the hit. I didn't know about Red Sea being rated so well. I was using red sea salt 13 years ago when my buddy owned a LFS and carried that for his salt water sales.

i know the feeing. bill does 99 % of the work (current 1500g tank)on his aquarium himself. he only gets help when he has to move something very heavy. all the other building and maintenance is done by bill.

this job(17,000g tank) is too big. it can't be done by bill alone. it would just take too long to finish.
so do you there is enough salt there to pickle a hippopotamus?

ha ha ha ha ha ha

?? I was taking about it being Jaymz Hetfield.

sorry my bad. i apologize.

The rest of us were stumped, too, Doc.
Spazz, it's nice to know that, Ferrarri or not, Bill is still a another guy up to his elbows in salt water.

How is he going to leak check the tank? Is he going to put regular water in the tank to leak check it, then drain it and add ro/di water?
