Dear Sirs
This is a very fasinating thread . I read it with great enthusiasm.
As for the most recent post about ones tastes in automobiles ,I pose this simple question to Mr.hahnmeister . Which type of exotic automobile do you posses ? Please be so kind as to list them for our audience.
As one who posses many exotic automobiles , I have found people like you to be a rather Peculiar bunch , You would like to give the impression that you have a vast frist hand knowledge of these fine automobiles to impress the people around you, or as to inflate your own ego , But the only experiance you have with such fine automobiles has been gained through what you have read in magazines or have viewed on the tele . The vast majority of the free world can boast that they have seen and herd such cars . Very few can say that they have driven them or have ownd such fantastic peices of history .So please refrain from making such statements in the future until you aquire such an automobile of your own ,it is marginally annoying to Me and other people in this community to read your unsubstantionated rant . I belive Mr. Spazz has had the opportunity to drive and experiance Mr. Billwanns automobiles as such has frist hand knowledge of these cars .
Cheers .
I own none. One does not need to posess something to appreciate it... I would say that I can appreciate it more because I get to have the fun w/o the bills.
But that does not stop me from playing. My father-in-law is the CEO of a large prototyping firm in Detroit that does work for GM and Ford, as well as many overseas automotive companies. Summers during college were spent interning as a long term test driver... where we are given an exotic, or not so exotic test car, a gas card, a company credit card, and some diagnostic computers, and told to drive the car across the country for anywhere from a couple days to a couple weeks. In the past I have driven Astons (Ford owns), Jaguars, the Ford GT, and some others from Detroit to wherever and back. Sure, they have GPS devices on them and speed regulators, but that doesnt stop you from testing them out.
Just to give you the idea of where I grew up, my GF's first car in highschool was a Porche 911. My 'big bro' in HS drove a Ferrari 328. Where I grew up, this was not uncommon. Last month I attended a wedding for the grand-daughter of Carmen (of Carmen Ghia) in DC, where multiple 'big-wigs' from the German automotive industry also attended... that was a blast.
I prefer to race miatas and other stock car classes...driving the car into the ground in SCCA races.
I dont know how you can post something like that, pretty much a veiled personal attack, and not expect a response, but for the consideration of everyone here... Ill leave it at that. I find exotic car owners to be a more peculiar bunch than the people that design them. I appreciate them from the engineering standpoint. When Aston offered the Pa-in-law to buy one at cost, it was a hard deal to pass on... he can drive it for a few years, and then still sell it for 2x what he paid for it. I never claimed anything more. I know some cars rather well. I am fortunate to know some people who make them.
