Hi All,
I picked up a blue maxima last night, it's kind of small but I think it will make it. It is only about 2".
They sold me some food for it SDaquarist, this stuff turns my tank very green and my dogs both came running
when they smelled it. Check out the photo below not the best photo.
Below is the information on the food.

Congrats on the nice new addition... I've been following closely. Just sent my hood over to Dave at Nanobox for my BC29 hood retrofit with the Bluefish controller. Can't wait. You and all of the other Biocube experts on here have been quite inspiring. Thank you.

Nice addition Barry. Just wait till that thing gets HUGE!! I think soul has one in his and its pretty good size. Better keep an eye on the big 3 as I know clams can suck them up pretty quickly when they start growing.

Brittle stars. I have a few of them too. Neat detritus eaters with cool coloration. I see mine stick out every now and then, and they don't bother anything.

Green Birdnest Problem

Green Birdnest Problem

Hi All,
I would like some confirmation on this coral's problem.
It looks to me to be coral tissue necrosis. The outlook is not
good. Has anyone had any luck in fragging a coral this bad?

No confirmation on the coral's problem. I don't believe in tissue necrosis as a disease, I believe it is a symptom of something going on. In your case, think about it's placement. Is it being stung by sweeper tentacles at night there? Is it getting too much flow right there (or not enough flow, a common downfall of the polyps on the inside of a birdsnest colony)? Are your nutrients climbing at a time when it got injured by something physically hitting it, and so algae has an easier time "invading" that space than the coral has the opportunity to grow back? Do you have any potential "polyp-pickers" that may be coming out at night and pulling the polyps off in that section (I've actually had this happen before)?

Due to my stated belief above, it's hard to say, but I think it's something external, not really a coral-related disease. I've had colonies die off for specific reasons, but rarely is it random.

You shouldn't have a problem breaking off a healthy branch and planting it somewhere else in your rockwork. If your parameters are good, with plenty of calcium and alkalinity to spare, it should take off in no time.

Hopefully that's somewhat helpful, and I certainly don't mean to be mean or a bully about it!

Problems

Good Morning All,
Got up this morning to a very Cloudy tank.
It looks like some one stirred up the sand, a white cloud.
One thing I did see was several bristle stars out. This is the first time
I have seen them out in any numbers.
I don't think it is an algae bloom.
Here is what I have done so far.
Changed the carbon and GFO and put in new filter floss.
My large duncan coral is also closed, Most everything else looks OK.
I did run a ammonia test 0
Temp 79.5
Alk 7.8
Ca 480
Mg 1480
PO4 .04
N03 4ppm
Any ideas as to what my be going on????

New Baby Black Sun Coral

New Baby Black Sun Coral

Hi All,
Here is a update on my Sun Corals.
When I was checking my tank this morning, I found
a new baby black sun coral. I bought the back sun coral late
June 2015. To say the least I was very surprised to find
this new sun coral. Check out the photo below, the new sun
is in the center of the pic.

While I haven't seen any new heads anywhere in my tank, I do have several new heads popping up on some of the branches that were previously dead.

My black sun doesn't seem as healthy as my yellow(I think it didn't like the placement), but the yellow sun is taking off like crazy. That has new heads all over the place, and more popping up every day.

Also reading your previous post, params look good except for ALK. Might want to consider bumping that up closer to 9. While 7.8 is fine, it is on the low side of fine.

Hi All,
Just a little update. Last week I picked up a
Tracy Morgonian Gorgonian. When I first put it in my
tank, it was ashen gray. It did take several day for the ture
color to come out. I can't say enough GOOD about unique corals.
There shipping is only $19.00 that's anywhere in the US. Packing
perfect.
