Basement Remodel... Ohh & a 320+ Gallon - 96x30x26 In-Wall SPS Tank

So how tall are you? and how do you like the 26" depth? Im 5'10 and Im considering a 27" tank, Ive had a 24 before and it was really tough reaching the bottom back. the 27 depth worries me a little.
 
I'm 5'8" so it's a little tough to get the bottom. I'm more concerned about reaching 30" across to the back of the tank. That will require some kind of a tool. Lol.
 
looks great so far! I'm also very interested in those reef breeder led's. Acid bath will definitely take the crud out, getting those rocks clean now will save you pain later. :hammer:

I think you are doing a very good job keeping it real but still on the path to greatness.
Some builds on here are so far over the top they can be almost discouraging.
Love your build so far.
I have several tanks from Great Lakes Aquariums myself and have always been pleased.
Nothing on the scale of your tank mind you. I know on some tanks they use two piece plastic frames, is this true of your tank or is it a single frame? I'm considering the same size tank.

One thing I have to ask about is why you cut the holes for your water tanks?
I find I need to clean mine semi regular and think you may want to consider making it a bit easier to get out. Perhaps it isn't actually that hard to get out in reality but I thought I would mention it.

Hope you are feeling up to putting that rock in the tank. Some of those pieces are huge!

Stu, Thanks for checking out the thread. I like to follow the KISS (Keep It Simple Studpid) principle when ever possible. Are you in Windsor by any chance?
The frame is two piece glued together in the middle(s). Really well done if I may add.
As far as the water tanks they are pretty simple to take out and all the plumbing will be union so it shouldn’t be that big of a deal come cleaning time.

OK,you can NOT have been married very long or your wife is VERY forgiving.
The rule is if you buy yourself something, only jewelry or some other high dollar item is an appropriate counter gift. Kitchen utensils, household goods or appliances are strictly verboten!

Cars... cars are always good.

Trust me guys. I will be paying back for this tank for a very very long time. The laundry room thing is just the beginning. But, she wants the tank just as bad as I do so....

Alright:

I have been back and forth on SAND. Sounds simple but important. I narrowed down some finalists and I need your help with deciding which way to go.

1 - TROPIC EDEN - REEF FLAKES - $40 for 30lb bag = $1.33 / lb. = $400/300lb
2 - CARIB SEA - SPECIAL GRADE - $35 for 40lb bag = $0.85 / lb. = $272/320lb

I heard that Tropic Eden is great but is it that's much better than Carib Sea?
I would like your personal experiences with using both sands?

Art, I use the Carib Sea Special Grade. It seems like it does resist being blown all over the tank. I guess I like it but I have had some compaction issues. That is probably more to do with lack is stirring and water chemistry issues.
I have not seen the Reef Flakes but I think I would go that route based on the reviews and how clean everyone says it is.
How deep are you planning?
