Basement Remodel... Ohh & a 320+ Gallon - 96x30x26 In-Wall SPS Tank

Been following your thread as I am planning a similar build here. Can you see through the tinting on the back of your tank enough to clean from that side or do you have to remove it for that? I am facing a similar problem and was looking into having an 1/8" acrylic cover made that would be held in place by Vortechs, but I would have to move the Vortechs to get the cover off if I need to clean that side. This looks like a better and likely cheaper solution.

You can see in just enough, no issue.

On the salinity... Do you have the second temp probe? They work together. Not the first one but the second one plugged into the same PM as the salinity.

Yes I do. I tried re calibrating again but still not happy with the results. I'm reading 31.5 ppt but my refractometers are reading 35ppt.

I'm having the same issue on my profilux. No matter how many times I re calibrate I get wrong numbers.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. Funny thing is I started second guessing my refractometer which makes you think how much more we trust electronic devices over mechanical ones.

Thanks for posting.

Are you calibrating through the web interface or directly on your display unit? If you are doing it from the web I would try it from the display.

Very nice tank btw! I'm starting a build similar but on a much smaller scale. Got some nice ideas from your setup. Thanks!

I tried both ways same result. I went through 4 calibration packets. I have one more packet and may give it one more try tomorrow night.

Glad I came across this thread. Had been toying with the idea of the module/probe combo. I'll stick to my good ol' refracftometer.

I have not had an issue with mine once I saw/knew that I needed the second temp probe.

I have calibrated mine twice just to make sure and it has been spot on.

I have two refractors though. Never can be to sure.

Did you put your second temp probe the one that is connected to the PM2 module inside the calibration solution along with the conductivity probe during the calibration?

No I just let it be... Good idea though that way it knows it is the same temp. I do not think I had enough calibration fluid to do that.

I bought bottles of calibration solution at 35 ppt.
I calibrated my probe at the tank temp, and used the same solution to calibrate my refractometer. I also borrowed a Milwaukee digital refractometer.

I get close readings with the optical and digital refractometer, the probe is reading 995.

Any more updates? I'm living vicariously through your tank build.

LOL,

Yes, I have a few updates but nothing major.

I setup a QT tank last week before the Lansing, MI Frag Swap. Nothing major or pretty but it serves its purpose. Its a 20 Gallon, hang on filter and my spare MP40. I put 30lb of Tropic Eden Live sand and a few pukani pieces that were in my display sump.

I had a great time at the swap and picked up a few nice frags.

Frag List:

Red Dragon
Niddle in a Hay Stack
Australian Delicate
Strawberry Fields
Tinas Orgasm
Oakland A's Paniculata
PPE
Fruity Pebbles Monti
Forest Fire Monti
Purple Tip Gold Torch

Here are some pictures from the Swap and QT tank. I have to get a better camera!!!

My attempt at a Panoramic shot with my iPhone.

Thanks

Really nice pieces, but the lack of light voids the frag tank option and the sand and frags void the qt tank option. I would leave it bare bottom with some pvc pieces, that way you can bleach everything between fish.
