basement return pump ideas please

Thinking about putting my sump in the basement finally. I don't have far to go.

over flow is glass holes 700gph kit.

I currently run a mag 7 with 4.5 ft head.

what decent pumps will get me in the 500gph range?

Anyone ever have problems with a lot of dust or anything getting into basement sumps.

Gen-x PCX40 (Mak4) would be my choice. Cheaper than similar pumps (i.e. from Iwaki), and doesn't use much power compared to the flow/pressure it creates. Plus it'll be just about right for your desired flow at that head.

I used the head loss calculator on the main page when I needed to figure out what pump to use from my basement. I ended up using a mag 24.

ok so im building a sump in my basement also and i love all the room im gonna have , i can setup anything i want down there , But dust is an issue .... my plan was to sheetrock the cieling , but i like being able to run wires and tubeing in the floor joists , so i think im gonna get some construction grade black plastic rolls and line the cieling with it ,i might even make a tent with the plastic instead of building walls out of wood for a sump room . also im useing glass tanks with lids to help . i shopvac'd all the wood in the cieling to get any dust and dust bunnys out about 2 months ago ,and i painted the cieling to help trap or lock any new or future dust up in there . ive notice a big difference in dust that has layed on the tanks .. hardly any at all . since im down there all the time , i tend to wipe things down often if they need it or not .

Also a fan of the GenX pumps and the little giant ones. I agree with dwzm, the genx is a great pump. Also a fan of the blueline model pumps. Plan your plumbing well, including size, number of fittings, etc and then hitup the calculator and keep selecting the pumps to fit your desired flow rate.

I've had 2 blueline/panworld pumps and I've been very happy with both.

Definitely use the headloss calculator to know for sure, but I suspect that a HD40 or HD55 would do the trick. Depending on your plumbing, the HD40 should get you 500-600gph at that head loss if you're just going to your display. The HD55 would be overkill, unless you were teeing it off for a carbon reactor or some other purpose.

thanks for all the help, after a little planning i got a good idea. The head loss calc. was def helpful. I always forget about them.

Now that i am moving the sump i am thinking of changing it out from its current 20 gal + seperate 15 gal fuge to a old 75 gallon i have at my parents house. Then section the sump off so each section is slightly lower than the one be for it. The display upstairs will flow into the fuge area then overflow into the filtration area then into the frag area,and then back up.

Only 2 problems the 75 is a old fresh water tank not used in yrs. So it needs to be water tested and cleaned of any medications that may have been used. I hear vinegar will clean it even if copper meds have been used. Anybody got any thought on that?

#2 were can i get glass baffles cut? and what does that usually cost? normally for my smaller sumps i just grab some scrap acrylic from lake erie plastics and cut that myself.

I got 1/4" glass cut to measure at a glass shop in Cheektowaga. I can't remember the name. It was probably less than $20. I didn't bother with rounded edges. You can use sand paper to get the edges smooth enough that you won't cut yourself.
