BBC Stomatopod Program Coming Up

In case I'm in the field when it runs, I wanted to alert people interested in stomatopods and who have access to BBC television in the U.K. that a program will air Feb. 4 showing some of our work on the power of the strike of Odontodactylus scyllarus. I don't yet know the title, but it is a program on how technology is aiding in the study of animals. The program is not just about mantis shrimp, but there are some excellent sequences of O.s. strikes filmed in super slow motion so you will see details of the action that we were never able to see even filming at 2000 frames per second.

Sorry, but I have no idea when the program will be shown in other countries.

Roy.

As yet, this is not scheduled on the BBC website. Will kep an eye out and keep you informed.

Cheers Rogue.

More bad news. This is not on the schedule up to the Feb 8th. However, it may be added soon.

I'll keep you guys posted.

It doesn't appear to be here on the BBC satellite station either.:(

Sorry, guys. They had told me that Feb. 4 was the day, but I can't find it eitehr. I can't get any iinfo from the producer on what happened to the schedule. I'll post another announcement when I get a firm date.

I hope it is worth the wait.

You nailed it. I just heard from the producer that the program was bumped back a week and will appear on BBC1 at 8:30-9:00, February 11. It is called "Animal Camera".

Excellent work! What amazing footage - wow! I hope that there will be more throughout the series!

60kg hit, that boils water just before impact! Amazing!

Nice work Dr Roy.

BBC1 is the British Broadcasting Corporation, channel 1, and unless you're in Britain somewhere, you're SOL getting it.

Dr Roy,

Will there be more footage shown throughout the series?? There was a good peice with O.S. and I want to see more!!!

The peice on this episode was about 4 minutes long or thereabouts.

I'm afraid that is all there is. We filmed for a couple of days and only shot O. scyllarus and Lysiosquillina. It cost several thousand dollars to rent the video system just for the week, so I don't think we will be getting another anytime soon.
