benefits of ambient light?

I know the pros and cons of exposing a tank to direct sunlight - are there any real benefits to ambient light?

I moved my tank into my family room this week and it gets A LOT of ambient light, but no direct sun light. Just wondering if my corals might get any additional nutrition.

the ambient light in the room is most likly not powerfull enough to do anything inside the tank. a way to see how much is really going into the tank turn the lights on when the tank lights are off. but with your house lights the k temp of the bulbs would be only good for growing algea.
