bennerkla's 5.5 AGA Nano Reef Diary (Lots of PICS!!!)

Man this is a great font of information. I am planning on a 10g tank with a 10g sump and love all of the tips found here. Beautiful tank and loved being able to see the whole process from beginning to, for lack of a better word, end.

hey guys. Thanks for the compliments! Here are some updated pics. I added some more corals since my last update. I apologize in advance for my crappy camera.

Here it was awhile ago...

Are those two long polyp sarcos on the right? I have one and it does well, but it is sensitive to the lighting. How about yours?

Not quite sure, got them from a friend. They've only been in there for a week now, but they seem to be doing just fine. What do you mean, sensitive to lighting? Like PC or MH?

Very nice nano Ben. Where did you get that red shroom? Is that one of those that Sedar had awhile back? Ive been looking for one.

bennerkla,

You have to be careful when you move some of these corals around. Whether it is on the bottom or up high they may react. My long polyp sarco is on the bottom, however it doesn't do well directly under the pc strip. It seems to do well in a more shaded area. In either position the stalk seems to bend. It won't stand directly up. I'm not sure if I should go to a 65 watt pc or a 40 watt pc in my new 10 gallon. I also have a huge stool that might be to big for the 10 gallon. I tried to post a picture, but I can't seem to get the right file for this site. How are you able to post pixs? Thanks.

cluckr7- Yes, they are from Phishybusiness. They actually broke off since I pulled too hard to get it out of its cement base, so I just laid them in the rock. They look sweet under my blue LED.

pimp- Green Tree Sinularia I believe.

looks like it might be time to upgrade to a 10g tank w/ a 70w metal halide and some actinics. that would be a good tank to take to college ;)

wow! so i just spent the last 2 days of my thanksgiving break reading this thread! i must say awesome job, not only with your tank, but with the documentation of it as well. Im a sophomore at Saint Martins UNiversity in washington, and currently have a 10 gallon reef and a 2 gal reef/mantis shrine. In my opinion, take the tank with you to college!!!! its awesome to have, especially when you are brain dead from studying or doing homework..... its a great escape! Shouldnt be too hard to move. Good luck with everything, and keep us updated. You have inspired a lot of us with your work.

by the way, what camera are you using for your pictures? I want to get a digi soon, but dont know exactly what to get. thanks!!
