Berghia Nudi's I just don't get it

So who knows which time of 3 I bought them and they have taken care of my problem except for a small patch which I'm sure they're working on.

The last time i bought like 30 of them from the guy in Danville. There were some really big ones. i saw several crawl under the rocks and saw a couple the next night and nothing for like 2 plus months and then all the sudden the aptasia starts to disappear. So i start really trying to look for them with a flash light and my glasses on. i see like one each time. I know that there has to be a lot more because my tank was infested and they have done a great job. That's my comment. Owe and this exact senario played out last time too.

Question....I would like to be able to catch some of these guys and pass them on to other members. Will they come out once they run out of aptasia to eat so I can catch a meaningful amount?

Frustrating little buggers!

Blast with turkey baster then suck up is how i transferred mine. I need to get few more again. Got room soon to breed some. So if u get a few id like some to try n breed.

I'd love to blast with a turkey baster if i could see some. I don't see any. I just looked again and it's pretty dark at 6am and I don't see any. i will keep looking

Funny you mention this. I just picked up some zoanthid frags at Caesar's and when I got them home noticed nudis. I'm at 5 siphoned off and in a jar. I also was "lucky" enough to bring home a gorilla crab. Anyone have a pest tank and want them?

To be fair, I am early on in my tank setup and the frags have dusters, pods, and lots of other stuff I am happy to have seed my tank. And, the price was really good for all the zoanthids I ended up with. The frags in the cup were all pest free, it was one they hadn't fragged yet sitting in the back of the tank with the crab and nudis. But, I can imagine anyone putting them directly in a large established tank would be annoyed if they skipped quarantine.

Bob, I think it's likely your berghia are smart enough to not parade around your tank in the open to be snacked on by fish.

The only time I've seen them out and about was in my lps flat after having removed all the coral and fish. Big ones, like 1.5 inches, were roaming around laying nickel to quarter sized spirals of eggs.

Kenny what you say makes sense although they are nocturnal and my wrasses bury themselves in the sand at night when the berghia are doing their thing. I'm not going to complain with them disappearing.

Ford welcome to the club. i would wait several months to make sure unless you're impatient like me and you just go out and buy more and then you dont know if they worked the first time. They take forever to populate and take care of a large scale problem.

From my experience with them they will in fact start showing up once the population is low. I bought a lot of them also from Danville ( seems he no longer does it =() and once the population was so low that it was hard for me to find them I would notice stragglers on the glass early morning before I would go to work.

Last one I saw I caught it in an attempt to breed them hoping to find another one but that busted. Since I removed that last one my aptasia population is starting to unfortunately return.

I need to restock and the other local guy on Craigslist wants as much as the online vendors do. I'm good on paying double the Danville price for the exact same nudis, I'll let the online business profit from me just out of spite =).
