ok, first off, im pretty new here. i have lurked around and read here and there... but i wanted to share my newest addition to the tank! i have been over run by Apistasia in my nano...i cant take it anymore.. i swear, every time i used joes juice or its similar competitors they would spread even more!!! and they would pop right back within a week or two ..good as new! so i refuse to use JJ anymore! so i found out about these guys...i acclimated them to my tank water, but its recommended you add them at night at lights off... so i had them in a container for a while, which was nice cause i got to take pictures of them, and watch them eat the apistasia i put in there for them! wild!!! it was really cool, cause it was really big!! and they finished it off in about an hour! too cool! these guys are really fascinating! so i just wanted to share them! im really interested to see how long it takes to see results lol.. cause i have a lot, and some are big! :p

i just got these into my tank...this is the link to the website i got them... tons of great information! and great service too! if you call hey will answer any question!

If I remember correctly they ONLY eat Aptasia, so after its gone they will starve to death. Keep an eye on them and when the aptasia is gone consider selling them to another reefer.

they downsize their colony as the apistasia are reduced...like you said... but i have enough apistasia to feed these guys for a year.. im exaggerating,... but who knows.. but i also have a 90g that i will put them in when they are done if i can find them again! that might be the hard part!

and yes, im fully aware and completely learned on this species.. i didnt buy stupidly or rashly.. i looked at all the pro and cons. and read everything i could for the last 2 months.

good deal!

Keep us posted on how they work. You should take a picture of your tank showing the aptasia now and do a progression shot over the weeks.

i'll do that! will be very interesting to see, cause this is the first i have ever heard of them and cant believe that they wouldn't have been talked about before... i mean, its a totally natural eradication. not adding foreign content to your tank, you know!

They've been talked about on here before. Most people use peppermint shrimp because they don't "need" aptasia. The only downside is they don't always work.

i heard the reason(only hearsay) is the reason some don't work is because it is not a true peppermint! the Lysmata wurdemanni is often mistaken by some as the...Rhynchocienetes uritai (the camel back shrimp) so that could be why.. but i know you all know that... just thinking or typing out loud! :p

oh! also.. if you have peppermints in your tank... don't add berghia... because the pepps with kill them! i think its some territorial thing.also, bristle worms will eat the eggs of the berghai (territorial thing also) so it was recommended to me to place them higher in the reef to start.

I have peppermint that I collected from the ocean and they destroyed my aptasia. I've been told, not sure how true, that wild caught peppermint are more effective.

yah i've heard that too... it also could be that its just a TRUE peppermint! i got a peppermint(along time ago) and i put it in the tank and never saw it again...the apistasia are monsters... i do have a cleaner shrimp and a fire shrimp in at the time, i wonder if they killed it...

The peppermint was probably killed by the other shrimp. :bum:

ok! we are in business.. well they are doing the business anyway... they did their little mating dance earlier when i peaked in on them.. couldnt get a picture though.. :p and now i see one is laying eggs! ill see if i can get a pic of that tomorrow
