Berlin-Reef 2.0

That’s tough..
I would have suggested turning the lights off for a week and running a fuge..
curious to know how you will tackle this problem.
Good luck!

Damn that sucks. Love the build tho.

You said that you lost all your corals? I would try sucking out as much of that crap as I could while doing a water change. Turn the lights off for 3-4 days but on the 3 day do a really large wc. Like as much as you can without stressing the fish out too much. That should help. Then raise your fixture up a lot to reduce the par for a few weeks.

It may take some time but if it works, it will be worth it.

Hey Matt, I try this

Hey Mr.:) Yes I will make 2 water changes in the next week and will try it.

so first water change is done!
I brush all the "dead" algae and cyano from the rocks and suck it out of the tank. tomorrow I will change the next 60 liter and will clean the sand in the tank.

I order the Fauna Marin Professional reef salt
The Schuran Jetstream 1 CA reactor is not in use.. because I sold it and I will change to Fauna Marin Balling Light... later I will add some supplements from Fauna Marin.
Will see what happened and I want a new System, so I decide, that the tank doesn't run Korallenzucht Zeo... I did it in my last 2 tanks over the years. :)

But first, I try to fix all the problems I have at the moment.:headwally:

Wow Dennis, I did not expect to see this. So sorry but it are just algae which are feeding and blooming on something in your tank.
as already suggested, clean them off as much as possible and change the water.
With this much of algae, no wonder your NO3 and PO4 are all zero.
Are you running carbon?

Hey janci, yes i use carbon. I Change it today.

Large water changes while removing as much algae as possible. Increase nutrient export and decrease nutrient import. All the slim aglae on the rock may be due to lack of flow in the tank, increase water flow. Black the tank out for 3-5 days. Running a fuge, algae scurbber or a chaeto reactor. Carbon dosing or gfo and carbon will help as well but that falls into the nutrient exportAll of these will help you solve your issues.

:)thanks for the tipps... will try everything step by step, to see which one works

Just keep at at it and dont gibe up. Newer tanks tank time to fully settle in. Take things fairly slow but dont be afraid of the water changes.

Hey Dennis,

I had the same problems with NO3 Po4 zero and green cyanos. Had great sucsess with A-Balance von Korallenzucht.

All Cyanos where gone after 3 days as written in the description of the product.

hey guys, little update from Berlin...
what can I say:furious:

only problems since November!:headwally:

Salifert:
PO4: n.n.
No3: between 10 and 50 don't know (today I think its 5)
Ca: 440
KH 8,5
1.024
MG 1380

nothing has change here the last few month. Only NO3

I do a lot of water changes and try to get the F**** algae Cyanos and Dinos out of the tank.
November: put 12 sps frags in the tank. everything has looking great. But then after a few weeks, the drama began. All frags went white. After this the tank is brown green dark brown and all over the rocks and the sand are beauutiifuulll :headwalls:Greene cyanos.

at first I thought it was low PO4 und NO4 (n.n.) the test results show me this opp.
So i dose Sangokai to handle the lvl. That doesn't work.
Then I try to dimm the ATI hybrid for a while. That doesn't work.
I also put snails in.
Then I put the BK off, I thought the system is to clean :hmm4: That doesn't work.
I also shut down the zeofilter. (I think thats was a mistake) today I ordered new KZ stones and start the filter this week again.

I start to dose Fauna Marin Reef Therapy, Ultra Bak and Reef Blend. (stop dosing Sangokai) NO3 is now around 5...
I also put live rock in the tank to bring some new bacteria in the system. That doesn't work. :headwally:
Now I will try to clean the tank with Zeo and carbon as I do it in my old 2 tanks.

In the last month Dinos all over 4 SPS...
ok you see, Its not realy funny here for me. But I will do my best to get the system clean and healthy.

here are some pictures for you guys :headwalls:

That SUCKS Dennis.. :(
That algae is clearly absorbing all of the po4 that the tank is producing..
Are you running any gfo anymore?

Dennis, that is a lot of trouble you are dealing with.
Hope you get through this.

Maybe an ICP test from a water sample can give more insight?

Dennis i love your tank. Its going to be beautiful when you get it figured.

What is the ph at? Do you have a Ph monitor or Apex? Try to drive the PH higher with Kalk or Co2 scrubber and see if that helps limit the Algae growth.

In my tank everything seems to do better with higher PH 8.1 or higher. I had constant trouble with Algae and then I bought an Apex and saw that even though my Red Sea kit showed what i thought was 8.1- 8.2 on the card it was actually 7.9 dipping to 7.75 before the lights came back on.

I drove the ALk up to 10 which helped get ph higher and then added a Co2 scrubber which boosted my ph over 8.1 and then ALk and Calcium usage took off and I had to go from using almost no 2 part to 100ml of ALk and 60 ml calcium additive a day. Almost overnight I notice Coraline growth pick up and all my corals looking healthier. Even My tang looks more healthy and colorful.
IMO the higher PH even helps the good bacteria and Zeo system work better as I've been able to cut way back on my Carbon dosing with almost no rise in PO4.

I suspect the Carbon was one of the reasons for the low PH.

Good luck

Tim
