Best "bang for the buck" dosing pumps?

AZBigJohn

Usually confused...
Once I start moving coral into my new tank, I am pretty certain I want to move into dosing, mainly calcium and alkalinity, maybe mag, too.

The wife's patience with larger aquarium purchases is wearing thin, so I am trying to walk the line between cost, quality and dependability.

In your opinion, what dosing pumps walk that fine line of providing decent bang for the buck without breaking the bank?

Really depends on what you consider a large purchase. I used a bubble Magnus and was happy with it. They go for about 100 used and are fully programable. I think there are some other Chinese multi channels dosers that are less expensive but not sure if they are dependable

I've been looking for used dosers, but seem to miss out on the couple I've seen on the boards...

I've looked at the Jaebo ones, I just have not had a ton of luck with their stuff.

BRS sells the whole 2 part kit with two dosers, containers and half gallon of each additive for $189... which isn't bad really... it's just at that level I need to "mention " before ordering, and the eye rolls are getting to me...

I purchased a Jebao 4 pump doser on Amazon for about $60. Overall it works well. Lots of programming options. My only complaint is that you have to calibrate it every few months. The instructions say to use RO water, but I use the actual solutions (alk/cal/vinegar/Mg). I did a test using water and the different solutions, and the run time does change based on liquid. Now with all that said, when I setup my bigger tanks I am going to get a Spectrapure unit. I have the litemeter II that I use for my AWC. The Spectrapure unit is spot on.

I have a pair of drews dosers listed for sale if you chose that route.

jeabo dosers are good in that they havn't stuck on and fried my tank. Haven't calibrated though and don't know how far off they could be, but you'll be checking CA and Alk anyway, so no big deal there. Jeabo 4 head doser is my vote after using it for 1-2 years.
