Best choice clown for hosting GBTA

Ok, which is the best bet to host with a GBTA?

I'm thinking occ. I've got a 30 gal tank and don't want anything that will get too big or too aggressive. Would a perc be a better choice? I'd like to get this right on the first try.

I've had several different clowns in the past with lta's but I've got a gbta now and I am pretty sure it's about to split

One other question, since putting my nem in this tank about a week ago it moved once and is under the overflow box so not getting full light. It's on a rock that I could turn about 90 degrees to the right and the nem will have full light. To do or not is the question. Yes I know that it will move on it's own, just thinking it would be better to help it out in this way rather than trying to direct ph at it and make it move with flow. It does have good flow in it's current location.

I'd just leave him be for now as long as he seems happy because as you know if he isn't happy he will move on his own again. However if you start to notice a decline in health at all then I'd give turning the rock around a try if you dont wanna point a power head at him.

Yes, his health was not great but not bad. It most certainly needed more light since it was sitting under the overflow.

I moved the rock around and it's opening up very fast. Likes the light.

Thats good glade to here he's doing much better.

For hosting clowns I think it will be hit or miss at best with most. I have two designer occelaris that dont give mine the time of day.

I agree that and theres something about an anemone that draws you in. I tried putting pictures on my tank of BTA's hosting clowns but had no luck maybe it might work for you. There's many things to try but that seemed the least risky and intrusive to me.

You can give it a try, you risk injury to the clowns as there is no time to build up a slime coat but some have had success with it.

Ya I know all about it, i've watched the video's and have spoken with a few that have done it. I guess if they don't host, I can wait a while and then catch the clowns and do it a month or so from now. Haven't decided. But, part of me will just see what nature wants.

Yup! And if they don't host in a reasonable amout of time there are other clowns to search for. :D

I know for a fact that a maroon will and I do like Maroons. Just don't want the drama and aggression that they bring.

Ive never been a fan of the maroons but to each there own:beer: only down side is they tend to be abusive to there host and in some cases to the point of death.

I think my next will be a wild caught pair of percula, I know I know some dont agree with the whole wc when there's captive breed but I think the wild caught look better and I want the challenge.

I've got four GBTAs and I've got a False Perc and a Misbar Occ that swim back and forth between all four nems, so I know at least those two will work. The minbar will go after my hand if I get too close to it's home, but neither of them are aggressive to the nems.

And the best part is they're colorful and cheap. Bonus.

Glad to hear it with the GBTA. I do think the Occ or a Perc are what I'll be picking up tomorrow. I'll post pics when I do.

BTA is not a natural host for either ocellaris or percula, so it's a 50:50 proposition as to whether they will perceive the nem as acceptable. Sometimes they do, sometimes it takes a while, and sometimes it never happens. In the wild these clowns are found in mags, crispas, and the carpet anemones ..... that's it. Of course, they are all very tricky to keep. Not a big BTA fan anymore, but I'd imagine there are clowns which are naturally hosted.

Years ago I had a RBTA that hosted a pair of tomatoes. They were really small when I got them. Juvi coloring of tomatoes, appears to me (don't know if it's true or not), to really be vibrant. They're a pretty aggressive clown though. Typical occ or percs is hit or miss.
