best clown for an LTA

I had a cool idea last night. You always see tanks with several BTAs and I thought it might be cool to get several LTAs on the bottom of the tank.

So what would the best type of clown be to get to host in them.

I want to add a group of McCoskers wrasse, aswell as a small tang, and the current flame angel, should they be ok with multiple LTAs?

Thanks

PS: pics are always great.

What size tank? These anemones get quite large, so you will need a lot of sandy areas. I only have one LTA, and he/she takes up to almost two feet of my tank. I wish I could take on a project like this. If I did ..I would put a red, purple, green and a striped one all together. That would look sweet. :)

The best clown IMO for LTA's are pink skunks. They take to this anemone so fast..well it is their natural host species in the wild. Even though my blue striped clown took to this anemone.

As far as the fish goes, they might do okay. My flame finned tang was stung quite a few times by my purple LTA.(all healed up now) The LTA tried to catch that fish but luckily the fish was healthy enough to pull away from the sticky tentacles. Like with any anemone species, there is always a risk of the anemones eating your fish. Some angels will pick at anemones. My coral beauty use to pick at my H. Crispa but this probably wouldn't have happened if the anemone was healthy. If you buy healthy enough anemones this might not be an issue.

Here is an old picture of mine...

I need to take new pictures :p

I have to agree with pink skunks. I've had that combination before and it was great! Plus if the tank is big enough you might get away with having a group of them!

ok so thats 3 options. How big a tank are you talking to get a group? Skunk clowns have never jumped out at me but a group would be cool.

It is a custom made 100 gallon 40"x24"x24" I would likely only get 3 LTAs and sell/trade them when they got to big.

Anyone have luck with other clowns in LTAs?

Anyone ever hear of an ultra LTA? It is a blue/greenish colour but very light. The LFS near me has had 6 for several months. They came in like that and they look healthy. Think I might try one.

I had 2 onxy clowns in a LTA, the anemone hosted em within 2 or 3 days. The clowns never leave.

I might try my luck with some marroons. I know they arent natural hosts but being tank bred maybe they wont care.

My GSMs love their LTA. Female is about 5.5 inches and though their natural host is a BTA, she destroyed every one I tried. Went with a 10 inch LTA and its a match made in heaven.

That's probably big enough for a group of skunks especially with 3 nems. You know something else that would be really neat to see replicated would be the three nems with a pair/group of skunks and a group of banghai cardinals like what one might observe off the coast of Indonesia. The cardinals seek refuge within the anemones similar to the clowns. Also the color contrast between them I would think would be very appealing.

Well the plan was for gsm clowns so I think I will stick with the plan. Hopefully they will spread their 'love' out to the multiple nems so they dont kill them one at a time as the first one is only 5" expanded.

I've had several LTA's and many clowns that took host from them.
Natural host matches are easiest or quickest, but I've had maroons almost always dive into whatever nem presented.
I don't recommend more than one pair in that tank, and yes, they should spread the love just fine between nems.
My exp, most LTA's become more beige as they build zooanthele/become more healty, and have accents of color.
The ultra's, phantoms, and alot of those really bright flashy named ones seem to fade, for me anyways, not sure the real deal on those.
A maroon might not like that flame angel from my exp.
Make sure tank is matured for nems.
Cubes are great for nem tanks.
Good luck, post pics.

Well I now have 2 gsm clowns in my tank. They dont spend alot of time together but they do hang out together. Hopfully they get together soon and find my LTA.

I've got a pair of false percs that host an LTA in my 14gallon biocube with T5's and then a misbar & true perc pair that host a RBTA in my 29gallon biocube with HQI....

Most likely they will pair up eventually if they haven't already been at each others throats, or one trying to kill the other.
I bet at least one will be in that nem w/in the next couple days, if not the end of the day.
Maroons are usually pretty quick to accept host.

I would begin shopping for a bigger tank for that LTA, as it will outgrow that tank very fast if it maintains health.

One's on the list as it has already doubled size since purchase, I use 6x15watt t5's over the tank, and feed the anemone mysis, brine and silversides two/three times a week... fun stuff watchin it grow, the clowns sure love it...

Here's a tank pic....
