I cant decide which species! I really, really like tomatos, but I am worried they will be too aggressive. I am planning to get a BTA for the clown(s) to host in, and will have wrasses, a lamacks angel, a YWG, several blennies, a LMB and a few other peaceful fish in a 75g mixed reef.

my LFS has availible on a regular basis (listed from favorite species to leats favorite)
tomato/GSM
pink skunk
clarkii
B&W
brown saddle/sebae (I think thats what they're called)
normal maroon
perc/occy (have had these before and dont really want them again).

Over the years I have had -- Clarkiis, GSM, Saddlebacks, B&W O's, Tomato, normal percs, and pink skunks.

Out of all the pink skunks have been the most peaceful.

I couldn't make up my mind either, so I'm shooting for a pair of each. Just kidding. I do have a pair of ocellaris, two pairs of perc's, one pair of GSM, one pair of clarkii, and hopefully I will be pairing up my brown saddle with my sebae. I honestly don't know which species I like the most. I can tell you that my fish don't behave like the reputation they have. Of all my fish the GSM probably have the worst reputation for being mean and nasty, but my GSMs are the calmest fish I have. They never get excited.

Just FYI. Brown saddle back clowns and sebae's are different species.

thanks. they're definetly brown saddles they have at the LFS. I think I might be going with a GSM, or maybe a tomato.

I actually would recommend against maroons. They are highly territorial, highly aggressive, and while endearing, may make your future selection of fish to add to your tank a nightmare. And if they bite you defensively they can draw blood. Fortunately the one that lived at the store I worked at liked me better than my boss she would only nibble me. I do truly believe fish are individuals and will make distinctions between people. That also says that if you get a GSM you may find a nice one but I'm not sure that exists.

From your list if I had to pick I'd go with saddlebacks. Sometimes they can be aggressive but I don't think anything quite compares to a maroon. To watch them is really to be entertained with their bobbing up and down movements. I'd encourage you to check them out to see if you can find some at a store locally and get a feel for if you like them. I'd encourage that for all types to see what you like.

I'm just not a fan of aggressive fish is all.

I'd definitely go with the tomato clowns. I love 'em, but got ocellaris because I started out with a 12g tank. Now that I've got a bigger tank and I could get a pair of tomatos, I can't bring myself to give up my ocellaris (and don't have the time/patience right now to manage two systems.)
