Best Coraline/Algae Scrapers

Title says it all, what is the best cost effective way to get that good bit of crud around the sand bed. Mag floats work great but what do you guys use/reccomend for as far as scrapers go.
Thanks,

Brad

For glass tanks, I use a new razor blade. For acrylic tanks, an old credit card works great!

I was wondering if there were any contraptions like the kent pro scraper. The top of my tank stands about six feet high, over my head, and its a long way to the glass bottom even with a high step stool? Any body find a way to mod the razor blades. I like the credit card idea and have seen it used before. Good way to keep the silicone intact, that's what I dont like about razor blades.

Any one use the Kent Pro Scrapper?

I do. I use the one with the plastic blades. I think the handle is 24" long or something like that. It works well for me, but I do a full scraping of the tank every 2 weeks when I do my water change. In between scrapings, I use a magfloat. I try to make sure I get all the coraline when I do the twice monthly scraping. I think if I let it go longer, I'd need the metal blade. In any case, it takes a bit of elbow grease to get things clean ;)

I have two Kent Scrapers, not sure if they are pro? One is short the other long. Work great at removing coraline, etc... on my 110 acrylic. Been using them about 6 months with same blade.

Just when you think you've seen it all......... That's actually a REALLY good idea! (for glass tanks ;) )

michaelm2431,

Awsome link thanks. It was something like this I am looking for, that way I don't have to spend about 10 minutes once a week scraping the bottom of the tank, which actually adds up pretty fast. Thanks for the cool link, think I will use this and a credit card near the silicone corners. I posted this bc I was tired of having to get in the tank for 10 minutes at a crazy angle to get the bottom areas of coraline/algae.

:D

I recently bought a paint-removing scraper at Home Depot to give it a try. The thing is shaped like a big, solid Kent scraper. You do have to buy the blades that are made for it to replace them but they're really solid and so far there's no sign of needing to replace it. Wash off after any use so they don't rust, though.

Avi,

I bought one of those as well but gave it away. It worked well but rusted up fast and didnt have much extension. It's not that I am lazy, but want to make a more automated system.
