I tried to catch my trigger for 3 hours with the net and he was way too smart for it

I tried to coax him out with food and he wasnt having it, he'd eat the food and quickly retreat

then I got this fish trap, and I literally caught him in less than 30 seconds

haha...sucker

How much and where did you get it? How does the door shut to keep the fish in. I have seen some that you have to turn it (the dooe) after the fish goes in.

the door is guillotine style and it is connected to several feet of fishing line, so you can stand a long ways away and then you just drop it

I dont want to go through the banning thing again, so I'll just say that I got it from a fellow reefer

Doesn't it feel good to get him out??? I fought to rid my tank of a flame angel for 6+ months. I built a trap very similar to yours and was doing the happy dance shortly after it was out of the tank :)

What do you plan on doing with him now that you caught him?;)

he now resides at Marine Solutions

I bought the exact same fish trap to catch a very, very smart hawkfish. It took me a while to get him to let his guard down and finally go into the trap, but it worked like a charm once he went after the bait inside. :)

So when you let go of the string, how fast does the door close? Is it gravity or spring loaded? I'd like to get my BUD (big ugly damsel) out some day. He might be a bit boney to fry up though.

faz, it is very fast out of the water and slightly slower under water

however it is very easy to just put a rubber band around it to make it lightening fast

however then it gets harder to hold the door open against the rubber band's resistance
