I use mangroves with much success... the only problem is they use quite a bit of magnesium as well. Chaetomorpha seems to be a popular choice also. I had chaeto until recently and the combo of mangroves and chaeto were efficient enough to be able to run skimerless at most times on a 120 gal total system with a moderate bioload.
