Best method to lower pH?

I have had a reef tank for several years and neglected to calibrate my pH probe on the profilux system over a year. I calibrated it last night and found the ph to be 8.5. I always thought it was 7.9. What would my next steps be to correct this issue? Verify with another pH meter? I calibrated 2 times with ph 7 and ph 9 calibration solutions.

My tank ran for years with a peak around pH 8.55. So I see no concern.

IMO, it is unlikely the pH is really 8.5 or higher in the absence of using limewater (kalkwasser), so I'd first suspect a new calibration problem.

That all said, the best way to decrease pH when it is too high is by aeration (or less limewater), or in emergency scenarios, adding CO2 as by soda water.

My tank was running at 8.55, or so I thought, after recalibrating my pH probe twice. Then I discovered that I was failing to save the changes to my Apex (it's always something). Once I did it properly my system read 8.15.
