Best place to buy SPS coral

I have a 120 gallon tank which is 2 years old and I am making it an SPS tank. I've always purchased my corals from LFS or LiveAquaria but the selection at both are hit or miss in terms or the quality of corals that I want. Where do most people who have SPS tanks shop for coral?

I love hitting up my local clubs frag swaps for corals! They have always been fair priced and nice to talk to people that actually grew them out a little!

Depending on how many pieces you want, I find sourcing out a supplier over seas can be a good way to get a large amount for a cheaper price but no guarantees on what you will receive unfortunately.

If local club has slim pickings you could hit up cherry corals, reef raft, or battlecorals. Some of the best stuff online IMO.

Your local reef club.

Especially if you are newer to SPS, your local reefers are going to be your best source. Usually these frags have come from a colony that is established in captive aquaria already, leading to a higher chance of success for you. You are likely to get a much better deal to boot.

I just went to the physical Atlantis location in Baja Reef last weekend.

I don't want to trash a true pillar of SPS keeping history, and I should note I have several old Atlantis pieces in my tank (via battle corals), but I would not, under any circumstances, suggest that anyone buy anything from Atlantis now.

If you are interested, feel free to PM.

Atlantis Aquarium has nice, proven stuff with good lineage.

Local reefers and Battle Corals.

Ask Adam to put together a lower priced frag pack. Some of his cheaper corals are mind blowing. Blood Red Millie is a good example. He's also got lots of the standard ORA stuff, etc, in addition to his pricier signature stuff.

Interesting about ATL.

Getting corals from local reefers and ESPECIALLY can be cool, but dangerous - you need to have protection. I would QT and dip all of that stuff... even a few times if necessary.

That is what I would recommend and how I stocked my tank. Two grab bags from Adam and the rest from local reefers. If you are brave and not to picky his grab bags are excellent deals. He will tailor them to what you want to spend.

Ebay vendors: SoCal Aquafarms and Golden Basket Reef. Both are excellent and have 100% feedback with 1000+ transactions.

There are also some very good private sellers on this forum and other forums.

When we upgrade to a bigger tank, we will probably do that -- Adam, give us 20 frags, don't go over $500" or something like that.

Cannot recommend him enough. Super ethical guy.
