I have been using that bulb for 5 months now, grows macro algae like crazy.

That's great news,good to hear. They have a newer version that is 3 watts per bulb but that seemed like overkill to me. 2 watts should be plenty for a small fuge.

What type of cycle do you run it? 24 or 12 hours opposite day cycle?

Have 3 of the bulbs from amazon and it fills my 40B with one giant ball of Cheato rather quickly.
 
Currently using this:

But I was using this:

At first I used a hps, and then moved to a mars, then the viparspectra.. And your growth with any of these is measured in days to a week and a half versus month to month(more efficient, effective and greater true export). It just depends on the area you are illuminating..

I have one of those bulbs and it's incredible how much of a difference it makes. Like I said in a post I have currently, those bulbs + a clamp on work light give you a high-end fuge like for $25 that can only be beat by the $300 Kessil option. The bulbs are large and extend outside of my work light but it doesn't matter because they don't need a reflector.
 
The kessil is highly overpriced for a plant spectrum grow light(don't drink the koolaid).. Especially for the wattage and single point of location like screw in bulbs.. There is no way on the face of an "insane" earth I would pay that for one of those..

If you're looking for lower power(and a smaller space) , I'd simply do the screw in types for a tenth of the cost. And if, like myself and most, you have at least a good 9 to 10x 10 or 12, do a Mars, the vispectara(the lower wattage one like I previously used), or one of the sensibly "dedicated" grow led fixtures(the popular 300 watt units and there are tons that work will below 100.00).. I have a large tub, so, I have a higher wattage light than even the 300 fixtures.. And even my fixture which is 600 watts, with 3 controllable channels to dim and turn off, is cheaper than that kessil..

And none of them cost as much as that tiny kessil, and I would be the par levels are immensely higher in the correct spectrum over a much more balanced area.. There is a solid reason why indoor growers have gotten away from spot lighting.. And sooner or later, the aquatic industry will catch on, much like many just starting to use high powered lights like the ones being discussed in this and many other threads..

But that kessil, no way, no way, no way..

How often are you changing the bulbs? I think its time for a new bulb as I am starting to get red turf algae in my refugium. I have a LED flood from HD that's about a year and a half old
 
I bought a generic led bulb , 5000k, the chaeto died.
Got a PAR38 bulb, chaeto stayed somewhat alive, but soon died just like with the other bulb.

Left the fuge empty for a few months then one day decided to put it to use again.
Since I had just switched to a Hydra26 HD over my tank, I put my old Kessil 160we on the fuge.
Color and intensity both at 100% from 12:00AM to 2:00PM. That's 14 hours.
100% color is about 10.000K .

From a 4" ball, it filled a 12x12x9" area in 2 weeks. It was super dense and as green as can be.
Goes to show, people might say a bunch of things, at the end of the day, try whatever you have on hand, if it doesn't work, then switch....and btw...Low nutrients=dead chaeto.

And for whoever says that kessil H series grow light doesn't work, just look at the BRS video they posted recently on growing macro with different bulbs.

Is anybody saying that? It works better than any other grow light I've used, but it's very expensive.
