Ok guys i have another which is the better system question as i am going to buy an RO/DI system in the very near future. I was looking at 3 systems and the first two being almost the same and the third being a "better" system that is cheaper but im kinda skepitcle cuz ive heard these systems leak.

1. Filterguys.biz
Ocean Reef + 1 five stage 75GPD RO/DI - $199.99
(comes with dual TDS and other things)
http://www.thefilterguys.biz/ro_di_systems.htm

2. BulkReefSupply.com
75GPD RO/DI 5 Stage *PLUS* System -$199.99
(comes with dual TDS meter and other things)
http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/RO/DI-...duct_info.html

3. Purewaterclub.com
150 GPD 6 stage RO/DI system - $102.00
(does not come with dual TDS meter but comes with other stuff)
http://www.purewaterclub.com/catalog...roducts_id=167
* This is the system a friend of mine has and he says his is great but ive heard they leak. Its way cheaper than the others...... hmm

Im going to buy a dual TDS meter and float valve so i can hook it up to a trash can on wheels for easier water changes anyways. The first two come with a bunch of accesories so i would only have to buy a float valve. Im not sure which one i should buy. Any input??

Also wat is the best way to connect these systems as ive heard the warmer the water the more pure water you will produce. But obviously u cannot connect it to ur HOT water supply pipe. But wont the COLD water supply pipe be too cold?? Is it better to just use a faucet adapter and adjust the hot and cold water comming out??

Safest to connect it to a cold water pipe. If you have a way to warm the water if it is below 77 degrees, that's good. But as you've noted - hot water will adversely affect the membrane.

Hook to cold water. I just put a Y on the cold water feed to my washing machine. Ran the drain line to the washing machine drain hole. Quick and simple.

This is what I have and it works great!!

You can try to attach it to a faucet and warm the water but be careful that in cases where someone flushes a toilet, or turns on the sprinkler system, etc, that you don't get a flush of HOT water out of the faucet.

We've not tried this, but depending upon what your tap water temperature is, the faucet approach should work. For instance, in the dead of winter the tap water is in the 50's here in Ohio. You should be able to carefully add warm water to bring that up to something more reasonable (70?) w/o running the risk of a flush of hot water - you know your homes plumbing better than anyone and should be able to figure it out with a little experimenting.

The warranty on Filmtec membranes is voided at 113 degrees (for context, a hot tub is run at about 105 degrees). 113 is pretty darn hot.

Ironically, the third is by far the worst one of the bunch. It's basically a very poorly rigged up drinking water system made of the wrong parts. Many here have them, but you'll find countless posts of issues and why these systems cost drastically more in the long run (horizontal DI for one).

Both 1 and 2 are solid units and sponsors here (we have others if you look at the sponsor links). I'd personally also recommend Russ from Buckeye Field Supply (who has already posted/assisted you in this thread). I get most of my parts/filters from there.

I have an Ocean Reef +1 and it works great, I've never had a single problem and the tds meter always reads 0.

I got the same one and i love it. Works like a charm!

Thanks guys.. I was looking at the one at buckeye but it seems really simple to me (only 4 stages). Also its doesnt come with all the accesories as the ones at bulkreef supply or filter guys which means it will probly cost just as much when i get all the other things i need like a float valve and auto shutoff and different connections cuz im not sure weather i want to connect it straight to the water supply or the faucet. I would think the faucet would be better becuase 1) you can controll both the hot and the cold together to get the optimum temp range and 2) i would think you get more pressure from both instead of just the cold. Ill probly just go with the one at filterguys.biz.

If you want the best then get a Spectrapure Maxcap. Its expensive but you will save a ton of money in the future from not having to buy as much DI.

It has the highest rejection ratio of any membrane 99% so it saves you money on your DI.

I'd encourage you not to buy a system based upon the number of stages. Rather, look at what is in each stage and what each stage does.

Except in very unusual situations, no more than one sediment filter is needed.
Unless you have a specific caontaminant you are looking to treat, there is no need for two carbon stages. One high quality block is needed.
Under normal conditions, a single RO membrane, and a single DI stage is sufficient.
