i have a 150watt nova extreme pro t5 with individual reflectors. just havin a tough time getting these guys to open, no pests on them. are they a zoanthid that likes more or less light? same for flow.
If you fear the light is too strong, try using the T5's only then move on to the MH couple hours a day and slowly increase the photo-period on the MH
Now if they do not open, it might be due to something else.
Just leave them alone, 3 days is nothing...some zoas take weeks to open. The more you move and dip them, the more you are stressing them out causing them to stay closed for longer. Put them at the bottom of your aquarium with good indirect flow and leave them be. If in 10 days they are still not open, then try a dip.
Well thats not good!Do like you would do when your not for sure if an anemone is dead!Take it out and smell it if it smells bad or foul I would remove them and do a small water change!
it honestly is like 3-4 small polyps that i got for like 5$, i cant see though how it melts in 2 days...the other zoas i get are doing amazing and in 2 days i can already see them budding into more
How do you acclimate your new frags to your tank? I found that taking some time acclimating mine helped A LOT. I set up a small bucket and put the water/frags in it and setup a drip system coming from my tank to the bucket (kind of like how an IV works) Once I place most of my frags in my tank, they open well within a few hours...although there are a few exceptions as with anything
Also if you moved them into too much flow, it could cause them to tear from their plug. The trick of this hobby is "take your time" A little patience goes a long way. Were your frags cut/glued or did the guy break off a piece of the liverock it was growing on? I always prefer to get frags from people who just break off a little chunk of the liverock the colony is covered....I've had a LOT better luck and faster growth buying this way.
