Best Trigger For A Community 125

This is related to my 125 stocking thread I posted a little while ago, but more specific.

What do you guys think? His tankmates would be 5-10" fish, Angels, Tangs, Wrasse (haven't decided on the stocking yet). So it won't be a super peaceful FOWLR, but not super aggressive either. So far I've heard Pinktail or Bluethroat, but for some reason neither of those fish really grab me. I'd love to hear stories and see pix from people trying to convince me otherwise though lol.

Otherwise what would you guys suggest? I'm partial to Nigers and Picassos, but I've heard the later can be very aggressive.

i agree with nanoreefer on the red tail, but i dont agree with the crosshatch suggestion. crosshatches are very active fish and a 125 gallon isnt that large. but red tails(sargassum) and blue throat are great choices.

The sargassum is a great community fish. I have had one in my 180 softie/clam dominated tank for the past 18 months and it has been a model citizen. The other positive is that it isn't a fast growing fish so I think it would do fine in a 125 for quite awhile.

Hmmm well I think that might be my choice then! Looking around I see they're a little spendy, especially considering it's a slow grower (thanks for that info, I always hate fish that grow funny, either fast or slow, makes it hard to predict!) so I'd want to buy a specimen that's already got some size to it. But I guess its worth spending the extra $ on a trigger that's more likely not to kill off my other fish, right? lol

a small pinktail, mellow and slow growers...but you will have to upgrade...

My niger trigger is doing great.
I have 4 feather dusters, torch coral, dragonets, puffers, crabs, you name it. He only eats the cubes of food.

The meanest thing he did was make my large 3 striped damsel stop being such a jerk. Which was a good thing because I couldn't catch him and sell him without draining the tank.

The other suggestions are even more likely to be cool, but nigers are good as long as u find a nice one and start him off small enough not to swallow a scooter dragonet, he will coexist with them well. Mine could easily swallow my chromis now and crush my crabs, but he plays instead.

I would think the niger would be like the pink tail, OK for now but will outgrow that size tank

Picasso's, humu's etc stay smallish but do develop attitudes usually

I would agree with the bluejaw & sargassum/red tail would be your best bets

A pinktail or sargassum would be the better choices in a community tank. Nigers are very unpredictable. As noted crosshatches need more room, and Rhinecanthus triggers get more pugnacious.

My lunar wrasse is by far a bigger %&#$#$ than my niger trigger, but its all in the fish of course. I've seen some that have to live alone and like mine live with crabs, and little fish...thus far at least. If this is still open I will tell u if anything changes, but the others are always a better choice....plus if u have a black background its not very photogenic lol
