Alright guys. So I have a HUGE rose bubble tip. I mean it is huge. Its about 15" across when open. I would kind of like it to split! haha. Any suggestions on the best way to get a bta to split?? Any from your expirience? I love the rbta but if it gets any bigger I don't know what I am gonna do haha.

From what I've seen, a commonly held belief is that stress is a cause for splitting - sort of a "peace out at least part of me is going to survive kind of thing" There was a thread circulating recently that indicates this theory, along with others I've seen in the past:

Now, it's a little mean and I probably wouldn't do it, but I've heard that a temperature swing from a poorly temp-equalized water change can sometimes induce a split, or you can do like that person and move it to a bucket, wait a while, and see what happens.

i have done feeding heavy for several days and then dont feed and do a really big water change
worked sometimes others it didnt
1 sure way is to set up a 10 gallon qt tank and put it in there
mine will split within a week that way
but you run the risk of losing it so be sure to cycle your 10 gallon before trying this
good luck

alright well ive feed it a full silverside a few times in the past week and i just did about a 35% water change and it shrunk down and moved under a cave towards the back so we'll see what happens. everything seems like its going to plan so far. I think thats about as drastic of a plan im willing to try to get it to split. I dont want do anything to risk losing this beautiful nem. I'll see what happens in the next few days.

thats a good sign mine always go hide to splint usally on the back side of a rock
good luck

A pair of scissors? I've seen a few youtube vids of people just cutting them right down the middle and after a few weeks they recoup and you have 2... then 2 makes 4, 4 makes 8, 8 makes 16, 16 makes... hum to much math for me.

Yeah hopefully it works - I've been thinking lately how nice it would be to have my RBTA split so I could get a little LFS credit perhaps for a little return on my hobby to at least pay for the electricity or the salt - wow I think that was a run-on sentence.

when it didnt split last night but today it receded to the back side of a rock and its totally in the back of the tank. Its barely getting any light so hopefully it will split soon.

well i guess it happens when you least expect it. I had pretty much given up on it splitting. Of course I go look at it pirched in the back of the tank... splitting.. haha. I hope it goes well. If all goes to plan I will be a proud owner of 2 rbta's :D

ABSOLUTELY do not cut it in half..seriously only thing u should be cutting is a steak..yummmieeee... unless you really know what your doing because after you chop a nem in half it releases toxins to heal itself, now if your not careful, it will actually kill off your entire tank...

i actually think my nem was slighly larger then yours before i coaxed it to split. i tried the heavy feeding, the water change as well..what ended up doing it for me was i changed my bulbs on my fixture and it wasnt more then a day later blaam split

It split over last night. I now have two nice healing anemones. One is about 6-7 inches wide and this other is about 7-8 inches wide. Already looking nice. will post a pic as soon as they are brave enough to step out where i can get a picture

Wow I just got a better look after the split. One of them is out front. I used a mirror to look behind the tank and I believe there is 3? I think since it was so big It may have had a small one (5"-6") split off and then the bigger section (about 10") split into two. I may have 3 rbta's on my hands. Anyone ever had this happen?
