Best way to dose Kalk

Either by use of your ATO or by taking a small container and placing above the the sump and letting it gravity feed by siphon and controlling the drip rate with a valve.

I add the same amount of kalkwasser each day using a peristaltic pump that goes for set intervals that are programmed into my apex. I add an amount that's less than my evap rate, and then top off evap with plain RODI.

You can just mix it into your top off container?

Yes. The trick is to get it in slowly over the corse of the day 24/7 or some do just at night.
When you ask the BEST way, I'd say a litermeter...

IMO/IME dosing from a still reservoir via timed perstatlic pump is best for consistency and slow even dosing.
I use a brute can with a lid. A liter meter 3 peristalitc pump with a controller in the unit provides a preset daily dose( I set in a tad lower than daily top off to allow for seasonal evaporation variations). It breaks that amount into 150 equal increments over 24 hours, a squirt every 9 minutes or so. There is minimal water movement in the still reservoir which limits CO2 entering the kalkwasser. Klak in a still reservoir will hold it's strength for several weeks or more.

I just purchased a LiterMeter 3 pump with a spare pump and hosing off Ebay. Will be doing exactly as Tom and Gary.

Side note I have been dosing Kalk via a drip method and can not the believe the difference (for the better) in my corals in such a short time. Especially my SPS color and growth.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I wanted to ask how big is your reservoir and how many tsp are you adding to that volume? Do you have to consistently stir the fluid in that still reservoir?

I want to do this, but I dont want to have to consistently fill up that reservoir.

I have a 50 gallon RODI barrel that is connected to my stenner pump. It pumps rodi into the house/tank. What is the best way to fill that kalk reservoir with my setup?

Thanks!

Thanks.

In a lidded still reservoir fully saturated limewater( kalk) will not loose strength for several weeks to a month or so ,since little if any CO2 from the air enters the still water where a crust forms on the surface . I'd say a 30 day supply would be ok at two tsps per gallon or a bit more which leaves some undissolved kalk at the bottom.

I use a 32 gallon brute can; I use 4 scoops equal to about 70 tsps . I use 20 liters per day( bout 5 gallons) for the 650 gallon system. This size requires a reflll every 6 days ; a simple process: stop pump, add water ; sitr in kalk; let it settle for 2 hours ;start pump. I could daisy chain another container or several but don't mind the 6 day routie.

A perstaltic pump will move relatively clear limewater from the reservoir without agitating the surface. I don't know what a stenner pump is or whether it will stir things up or clog .

Dosing should be spread out as much as possible in equal incremnts over 24 /7.I dose mine independent of automatic top off at a preset amount per day appoximating top off , thus avoiding variations ralted to variations in evapaoration
