Better return pump, Eheim or Gen X?

I want to change my Mag 7 for two reasons. NOISE and HEAT.

Should I go with an Eheim or an external gen x pcx30?

I just went from a Mag 9.5 & 7 to an Eheim 1262 & 1250.

It dropped the temp and the noise.

The Eheim 1262 has been rock solid for me. I have mine set up in sump and it is quiet.

how can you hook them up to pvc plumbing? it looks like they can only take soft hoses?

A 1260 is a great replacement for a Mag7. MUCH quieter, more flow, less power.

Use a sched 80 (not sched 40) 3/4" MPT to 3/4" slip fitting. Wrap it with a few winds of Teflon tape and screw it in.

I have a Eheim 1260 and a LifeTech AP5400. I use to have Rios..then went to Mags...then to Eheim. It is worth the money.

I got two off Ebay for cheap. I think they basically Eheims sold under a different name,..but they are a lot more noisey. Other than that I don't see any difference except for price

By adapter pieces and trim to fit. Take it with you to the hardware store and see what works. You may have to run a few inches of hose and fit it to a bib...

Eheim is well eorth it. Even if you have to use a small portion of flex.

I have both and they are both good reliable pumps. One one hand the Eheim, brandwise, is more reliable but I will opt for an external pump in most situations given the choice. The Gen X will produce more noise but less heat will added to the water than with the Eheim.

Anyone using this on an AquaC EV-180 skimmer?

It says, not self priming. Anything special you have to do to this pump?

But not air cooled and a fan will need to placed blowing on the pump to reduce heat added to the water IMO.

The Eheims are the best by a long shot IMO. Very worth the $$. Put out more flow than the box says (and more than other pumps that are rated the same), very quiet, no failures.

Also, I strongly recommend you use it in sump. Not because externally causes problems, but because if you use anything out of sump, inevitably something will leak/break/flood. It is a good long term practice to use everything in-sump if possible.

With all due respect this is not true. If setup properly quality plumbing materials will not leak. Skimmers can overflow etc....but that's not the same thing

I had a gen x pcx 30. That thing was noisy! I couldnt take it. I sold it and got a quiet one 5000 (1330 gph). Though not as powerful as the gen x it is way quieter. That gen x pcx 30 can pump some major water even though its only 982gph!
