Big problem with glorious new sump :(

So, I recently got a custom sump made by Advanced Acrylics. Some may have seen my post praising the beauty of this sump. Well, I got my system wet and running last night and woke up to see a pretty big problem. :sad2:

There is a leak between the return section and the ATO reservoir. I did not fill the ATO reservoir last night, but this morning it had water in it at the same level as the return section.

To make matters worse, to install this sump in the stand I had to remove the top of the stand and drop it in. Meaning I would have to literally tear the build back to zero to remove it.

My question; Is there a way to repair the seam between the two sections to make it water tight without removing the sump? Can I just apply weldon 4 around the seam?

I believe this is in the wrong section,

Regardless I'm sorry to hear about this, it's terrible. It you can cut off the water from your display to the sump, drain your sump completely of all water, then apply the Weldon you should be fine. But you will have to let the Weldon sit dry for a few days I would say.

Haha...definitely the wrong section. I will PM a mod.

That is kind of what I am thinking. Drain the sump, apply weld-on 4, followed by a bead of weld-on 16, then cross my fingers.

That will definitely solve the issue, the only problem is the down time. Apply the Weldon 4 but then you need a good 24 hours to let it cure, then apply Weldon 16 and I would give it a few days to fully cure maybe even a week before adding water.

That sucks to hear man... Have you contacted advanced?

I personally would add some 1/4" x 1/4" square rod on those corners just so the weld on has something to bite on and a larger area to fill..

I left a message for AA but have not heard back from them yet. I have located a local source for Weld-On 4 and 16 so I will go pick that up today. Later tonight I guess I will start the process of draining the sump.

This sucks.

IME, getting AA to fix a defective product is a nightmare. Please let us know if his Customer service has changed.

Great :sad2:

I may twist his arm for a partial refund or dispute the charge with my CC company. I shouldn't have to buy $40 with of supplies and spend hours fixing an issue without being compensated.

I would definitely wait to hear from the manufacturer before doing any repairs as DIY fixes may void a warranty.

That being said if you end up fixing it yourself youll need some clamps big enough to go from one side of the sump to the other. Youll also need some weld-on 16. Thats the thickest weld-on product there is I believe.

I spoke with AA and they told me to attempt the repair as planned and offered to send me whatever supplies are needed. I am going to wait and see how the repair effort goes before discussing compensation with them.

In the market for a new sump. This thread makes me lean towards Trigger or Senergy. I want a plug and play not DIY. :)

I can't argue with that. I can say the sump is gorgeous and it did not take long to get it, but this has certainly left a bad taste in my mouth. Maybe I got it so fast because they did not bother to test their work...
