Big skimmers for big systems

There are a lot of good skimmers out there. I used an Aerofoamer 848 with an additional mid section on my 535. It is almost 6' tall. Now I use it on my 180!

i would look at the dart needlewheels, thats what im saving for!
i have a quad beckett now that uses a sequence manta ray pump.alot of juice!

Dual and Quad becketts are extremley efficient on skimming, just not power LOL. I picked the higher watt per ounce of skimmate option, a MRC reciurc.

My quad beckett is a recirc! but your right its not efficient as far as power is concerned.772 watts for the manta ray.

Mimictang, you can do a search on dart needlewheels there has been a few floating around here on RC.im hoping to replace my skimmer with one at some point. There is actually one for sale right now in the selling forum.

Bubble Kings are nice. We have one on our 250 gallon system and at this point planning on running two on our next 1000 gallon system. Extremely energy efficient too....typically under 80 watts of energy total for the skimmer. They are pricey but it has been the best piece of equipment to date.

KenT, What pump do you use on the Aerofoamer and is the skimmer itself loud?

I use an Iwaki 100. There is noise from the air intake on the skimmer, but I think there is a way to silence it. My sump, pumps and skimmer are in my garage so I don't hear them.

I get my H/S a250 soon I hope it is worth the $.
I have ran a geo Duel beckett and the pump was real loud. I have been running a ASM G6 for about 3 months now and Im pretty happy with it.

Deltec, H&S and bubblekings are the best needlewheels out there. Here are a few Deltec options (these can also have a self cleaning head) ie: lots less maintenance:

or

this if space is a consideration:

The becket option (heck of a deal) MRC MR-C8472 (needs lot's of juice)

Here is a question for all you big skimmer users.

I am setting up a live rock wholesale company in Ireland. I need a skimmer that will help me cure 1000kg of live rock per shipment.
I see the dual beckett MRC beasts and think - well this should do it. I am worried about the power comsumption. What is the best bang for buck on skimming. Remember when I drop all this rock into the vats for curing there is going to be a need for some serious skimming.

Thnaks in advance.

Andrew

You may want to run more than 1 skimmer. Or go with a commercial size from R2K (I think thats the name)

i second the dart needlewheel, best bang for the buck, performs as good as a deltec/bk for alot less a
