Big skimmers for big systems

if you want a "cheap" skimmer, go with a beckett, like a mrc or aerofoamer, but you will spend more monthly on electric and it will be noisier

I'm looking for efficency. Rather a more expensive unit which is better on power then a cheaper unit which will be more expensive in the long run.

Those ATI bubblemasters are looking more appealing every day.Honestly if one doesnt cut it over time, then you can always buy a second one for $600.The power consumtion from what ive been reading is extremely low.I cant wait for some of these guys to get theres in so we can see some real world results.

The owner of ATI told me that the 250 model will skim a 500 gallon tank no problem, but ive yet to see any decent skimmate from any of the pics ive seen so far.

3K I can afford if it does the job. I like the idea of having more than 1 skimmer.

I am off the idea of the beckett skimmers as power will be to much.

So can you let me know what the options are? I am keen to find a second hand one or two or buy a diy job that someone has tried and tested.

Thanks already for the advice

Andrew

i also considered ati but would like to see some results first. i ordered a custom dart needlewheel from spazz on here it's considerably cheaper than a bk at alot less cost and equal or greater the performance. pm me for details

I've got the Deltec AP702 on my 240g mixed reef with many tangs and 1 Moorish Idol and the water stays pristine. Since the Deltec is gravity fed straight from the overflow box I'm only using the 2 recirculating Eheims for skimming and the one Dolphin Ampmaster 4000 for the 4 returns built into the overflow, Sea Swirls and chiller. Grand total is 274 watts. Of course that number doesn't include the chiller and Luminarcs wattage.

I have the BK400ext rated up to 1000g, SUPER QUIET, energy efficient and it is a beast only using 58w. Here is the pic after 2hrs of running.
