Biggest Dang Bristleworm EVER!

I saw him last night. He crawled out just after lights out. This thing was two inches wide, can't tell how long. As soon as he saw me, he backed up into his hole again. Smartie pants- worm. My eyes were popping out of my head. He's hiding in a 20 lb piece of live rock full of tunnels. Now after reading up on these big guys, this is what injured my RBTA. I can tell by how her tentacles are melted on one side.
I need to get rid of it. I am thinking about removing all corals from said rock and cooking - as in microwave or hot oven- and killing this thing. Is this a bad idea? Also, maybe dipping entire rock in vinegar, or gasoline and setting it on fire. I've heard that a nylon stocking stuffed with food may get it entangled but I don't want to stay up all night waiting. This is the only rock in my 12G nano. Any suggestions?

Goby-wan, just saw your answer to a previous similar proble. Fresh water? Maybe i'll try that.

I think i'll try that. Luckily, I am moving this weekend so the timing is excellent!!!
Thanks!

I had a large bristle worm that caused my RBTA to die because of damage it caused her. it would try to steal the food from her mouth and try to pull the anemone into the rock as the worm retreated. i did a freash water dip to kill him. he was to big and smart to trap. good luck.

Redvicki, a lot of people don't realize how bristle worms can hurt nems. The larger fire worms target them as a main food source.
This morning, I removed the rock from the tank and immersed it in fresh water. I got a lot of worms out of it, but not the one I was looking for. It was too big to just "fall" out of the hole. The rock is out in the garage re-cycling with that monster still in there somewhere..... it'll be a long cycle.

It could have moved for sure. Also 2" around are you sure it was a bristle worm. It could be a euclid or some other type of worm.

he said that is the only rock in his 12g nano... so it should still be in there. i hope he gets it out and takes pics!

Sorry I haven't kept up with my own thread. The rock is the first piece of live rock I've ever purchased. It went into my 12 gallon so there's really no place for the killer to go except into the sand. I've thought about splitting it open, but its such a killer rock (no pun intended) that I don't want to ruin it. I can try to post a pic of it - I have plenty -

The above picture was taken a year ago when it was new. It had just finished cycling. I need to upload new pics. Anyway thats the rock. There are a couple of rocks on top of it.
