Bimac eating Formula One with gusto

In Memoriam
My new bimac (19 days in my tank) just ate his first non live food today, half a cube of formula one. He yanked it right off a wooden skewer then wouldn't let go of the stick. This is probably an OK diet for him long term, right?? I plan on getting some live food occasionally to watch him hunt.

I don't know anything about its nutritional value, but if he took it, it can't be all bad. Try some frozen shrimp and / or scallops from your local grocery store. I buy mine in one pound bags at wal-mart for $7.99. They last for a while and the seafood is individually frozen making thawing easy. Biff the bimac likes both of them. I hand feed him ocassionally, when I have the time. When I offer him food by hand, he always grabs me and ignores the food. He'd rather tug on and explore my hand than eat. I'll let him do it for a while, but eventually pull my hand out. The last couple of times he followed my hand until he was almost completely out of the tank, spit water at me, and then let go. He's got a very interesting personality and he's fantastically curious.

I also offer him live crawdads when I can get them, or fiddler crabs if I can't get crawdads. (Crawdads are about half the price and have more meat to them, it would appear). Biff eats two crawdads or three fiddlers, or 1-2 small shrimp or most of one large scallop a day. I bought him about 6 weeks ago, when he was about 6" from the tip of his mantle to the end of his tentacles. He is now 8" long! He has a 120 g Oceanic home with a 35 gal sump, and he has littered the tank with shells!

Haha sounds like my bimac. He is also way more interested in my fingers than the food im offering. He used to let go when I began to bring him out of the water but lately he has not. He comes right out of the tank and doesnt seem to mind at all.

If it likes Formula One, you should try to get some Prime Reef...seems to be a much better mix of food with no dye in it like the Formula One has (it's reddish, right?). I don't have an octo, but my fish & crabs prefer Prime Reef to Formula One any day and my water stays cleaner with it.

Kevomac, crawdads are easy to get. go to a live bait store. they are actually expensive where I live, 12 for 3 dollars. My friend gets them 12 for 1 dollar.

CAn you beleive that in the UK, they are sometimes sold as pets and you cant get them in bait shops, only pet shops and they can cost as much as Ã"šÃ‚£10 each!!!!! ($14)

they are sold as pets here too, but they look cooler than the bait ones. also some places inb the states you can also get ghost shrimp as bait. I really like it here. The streets are paved in gold. also their is this guy who epoxied his lips to our ***. His name is Tony Blair:rolleyes:

LOL, well there is a big difference between kneeling down and bending over!

As a Scot, we are mostly fairly distanced from the English politics and their arse kissing! :D

ROFLMAO!!! :lolspin: :lolspin: :lolspin: :lolspin:

And let's not forget, the only difference between kissing butt and brown-nosing is depth perception!!!

if you want to I can talk to the person that runs the bait store andd ask how she breads them and then send you a gross (144). you'd have to pay for everything of coarse, but you'd have an unending supply. you could even sell them to the pet store!:D

What is the fastest that a package can be shipped from new york to where you live? these are very hardy, mine has survived temperatures in the 60 to 80. Also they can go a long time with out eating. Plus before they are eaten they are a cleanup crew!
