I'm stiil need to decied waht to put in the reactor.

What do you think is "the safe side"?\

Why or why not use Bio-pellets / GFO?

Thanks!

Hi,I am using BRS bio-pellets with my SPS only 90 tank, and it is working very good, the nitrates are about 2.5ppm and going lower and phosphate is zero with Salifert test kit, but will be getting the new Hanna meter to check that. I have water stripped by bio-pellets and make sure that I feed the corals and also extra food for the couple of fish in tank. I will be adding more fish to generate more "feed" for SPS. Not sure if GFO only will work for you unless you have a phosphate problem. I will be adding a carbon reactor very soon. My nightly top off is all from Geo Kalk reactor and my levels are very stable.

Different purposes. Bio-Pellets are more for nitrates and they do help some w/phosphates but they aren't as effective with phosphates as GFO. When I was running Bio-Pellets I was also running GFO they work great together I however found I was able to keep my nitrates at acceptable levels without the pellets so I took them off line (for now). I can't however keep my phosphates down w/water changes alone so I still use GFO.

So 1:1 to GFO and Bio-pellets.
I don't know if to upgrade the reactor for the bio-pellets and its killing me :-)

they both do a great job just on to different thing's.
Bio-Pellets = nitrates
GFO = phosphates.
what do you have a need for?

I have been running the BRS biopellets and for my carbon i run the chemi pure elite. This has some GFO in it and that works well to keep my phosphates between 0 -0.01 on the hanna colorimeter.

I have both.

Should run bio-pellets and another reactor for GFO?

does they take ou also the coral food from the water like carbon?

Thanks guys for the advices!

Honestly, I wouldnt mess with Bio Pellets or Phos remover unless absolutely needed. Are there any specific issues you are having? Or you just think its a good idea to implement ahead of time and prevent nitrate/phosphate from rising? Keeping it simple works best.

I need to treat nitrate and phos. befor introducing SPS corals.
I have 45 nitrate and 0.4 phos.
I have only LPS and they R feeling great but for SPS it's not good.

So what do you do if you have my problem?
I do water changes every week 10%.

I have both wm biopellets and gfo.... the bio pellets works awesome on nitrate but OK so phosphate..so gfo had to be added to bring it to 0. I would do both but slowly add into your tank.

I have used bio-pellets and they stripped my tank almost to the point of crashing. So be very careful when using them. I would suggest starting out very slowly with a very small amount and working toward the recommended amount for your system.

These days I just run a small amount of GFO and carbon in a media bag in the sump with great results. My NO3 is undetectable and PO4 stays around 0.02. I feed corals and fish very heavily. High import export is working nicely. Good luck!

I vote for both. I was running just bp's and they work great for keeping nitrates at 0. However, they didn't do much for phosphates, which got as high as .25ppm!!! I've since added another reactor and use a combo of GFO and rox 0.8. One of my montis has faded a bit but the rest of my corals are starting to look better with better PE as well.

O.k - so I put them both. does they can be on the same line (the GFO and bio-pellets)?

also, what is "rox"?

and what do you think about the TLF phosban reactor for bio -pellets? (after chaniging him).

tanks!

ROX 0.8 is activated charcoal from BRS that is super efficient....I use a half cup every two weeks on my 75 and it shuts down my skimmer for about 12 hours.

I currently use WM biopellets in a TLF 150 and it works great. As well as ROX and GFO in a BRS dual reactor.

I don't think chaining the reactors together is a very good idea because they need different flow rates. My set up consists of 1 phosban reactor with bp's driven by a mj1200, and 1 phosban reactor w/ rox and gfo mixed driven by a minijet 404.

i have a sps dom tank and run the vertex pellets, no gfo or phosphate material, i do have a really good skimmer, have great growth and color, and been running my system this way with pellets for 8+ months

My skimmer is very good and over kill for my system. it is the RO 150.

I will return the reactor and change it to bio-pellets one.
If I need I will buy another reactor (Phosban 150) for GFO.

Sounds like a good plane?
