Biocube 32 build

Anybody got any input on any downfalls of having a regugium lit 24/7? I know most people do it reverse there display lights to stabilize the ph change, but wouldn't there be the same affect leaving them always on?

Also the past couple days there have been bad diatoms on the sand bed and rock, ammonia has been 0 for well over a week, but there is still about 1ppm of nitrite. My question is can I still get a few snails and a start to the CUC even though there is still nitrite in the water, or is it harmful?

I let mine go for 30 days before i added any CUC. Then it was 3 tiny blue legs and two astrea snails.

After my cycle which took about 45 days i added my first two fish...pair of juvenile clowns.

Even after 45 days, it was still ugly and got uglier. went thru a diatoms, hair & dino.
One day around 90 days it just started looking better but that was slowly adding the CUC and resisting every fiber in my being to add more fish.

Now its all good and i have 4 fish, 2 shrimp and a diversified CUC.

I'm not suggesting either way but if you do add now, it should be focused on smaller things that will work the rock and sand to augment your cleaning/water changes

You'll be fine with 1ppm of nitrite. Now the real question is, will the diatoms be disturbed by the snails at all? I don't think they will. I think the diatoms will go away when the tank matures.

Ok thanks!! Sounds like I will get a couple snails today! Also does anybody have suggestions about my regugium lights question?

It's good for the macro algae to have time for respiration which they do at night. So that is why you need some darkness.

Many people always have light on.

in the end it makes just a small difference.

The diatoms have got worse, the snails are doing a great job on the rock but the Sansbed and glass is terrible, I can obviously scrub the glass but I want some more snails that will clean the glass and sand, any suggestions?

I have a mag float glass cleaner from my 125, I believe it is the medium sized one, will it scratch the glass on my biocube?

thinking of replacing my heater for i think the thermostat is going out in it, I have had it for a couple years. any suggestions for what heater to move to?

Update
I purchased a pair of shark nose Gobies
And a begani cardinal all is doing good no more diatoms
Here's a picture of my 125 gallon reef I tore down last year

I just put a 100w cobalt neotherm in my 32. I ran one in a Red Sea 130 a couple years ago and it was great.

Ya of course. If you'd like I could post a picture of the skimmate it has produced later today. All together the skimmer itself seems really nicely built. I really can't see any downfalls from having it in the third chamber, the only thing that is a hassle is once you take the collection cup of the skimmer off to dump it, it's a pain in the a*# to get in back on in the third chamber without taking the whole skimmer out. Although I have nothing to compare it to I think it's working quite well. Right now I have it fine tuned to produce a very dry skimmate

Thinking of getting one Picasso clownfish and one snowflake and hoping they pair up for I love the markings on both of them.

No. Glass is very hard, hard things resist scratching, acrylic is soft those tanks get scratched by some algae cleaners. Just be sure not to rub the rock on the glass, and don't get sand in between the cleaner and glass. Rock and sand are hard and may scratch the glass.

That Cobalt is a good idea, I like Eheims too.

IS that a Chamber 3 problem or a problem of the AL115 skimmer? Would it be different if it was in chamber 1?

Sorry, fat fingers hit send...overall I believe it's an al115 problem but when it's mounted higher in chamber 1 or 2 you can grab the skimmer body. In chamber 3 it's mounted so low and with the return pump line it's impossible to get your other hand on it when you replace the cup.
