Gonna try and reply to all.
The dry skim well yes mean more effluent will get into the system, thus more nutrient into the system and water column. I will preface that with "potentially". Simply because it depends on what you want to do. In one hand, you could dial the effluent back on the top, which I know you really don't want to do, or, you could let it ride and see what happens if anything, but I would test as things could change pretty quickly. At least once a day I would honestly.. Or, you could set yourself up to get another skimmer.. Yours is giving "me" a headache.. Lol! Just kidding.. Ha ha..
But, i remember, before these skimmers, I used aqua c ev skimmers. I liked them, but they were noisy.. First skimmer that actually allowed me to adjust from wet to dry skim fairly easily.. But my point is, that most decent skimmers will get the dark and clunky gunk out dry skim, but not all of them are really adjustable easily.. I don't know why myself and honestly, but lol, that's why I think he charges what he does for his products, and as a flip why as you said there are "dynamics haters". It's a tough choice honestly to contemplate when you have something that won't let you do what you want.
My lights right now have me there.. I have to upgrade after Christmas and I'm not happy at all about it.. But it's something, I know I need to do with the system or I'll just go buggy.. Lol
