Curious, I dug up several "limpets"(approx .75in. long)the 4th and brought 'em home and dropped 'em in the sump. They're still alive. I'm contemplating putting more in the tank. Anybody done this or have reasons not to?

They only reasons for not adding them is that some of the Florida species will eat soft corals and some other things to which aquarists object. You could always add them and watch what they do for a few weeks. If they are spending their time in the wrong spots, take 'em out.
