I have a decision to make: BK mini 250 2nd gen or Alpha Cone 250 ?

which one is the better skimmer? My system will be about 275-300g mixed reef. any suggestions which skimmer to pick?

That size tank, I would go with the Bubble King Super Marin (SM) 250. Best skimmer I have every owned. Mine is running on a 225g system.

I am not sure I would go with any of the BK mini's on that size tank unless you have a space problem. There is alot of good info in the Proline/Royal-Exclusiv/Aquaperfekt forum with similar questions as you are asking.

Bang for the Buck...

Bang for the Buck...

If you can afford it, you can never go wrong with a BK. I faced much the same dilemna, not 6 months ago. I have a 240 display with a 65 gallon fuge. I looked at many and narrowed to three; Deltec, BK and RE-Vertex.

I started seriously researching the BK Deluxe 200, the Deltec AP702 and the RE Alpha 250 Cone. I found the Airflow and water flow similar. Construction on the Alpha to be equal to BK overall and imo better than Deltec. The Red Dragon pump is above reproach and on both the BK and Alpha.

Each has thier own strengths and all are quality skimmers. I know I would have been happy with any of them. While any of the three would have worked exceedingly well, I settled on the Alpha 250. Why, simply bang for the buck. BK and Deltec were nearly twice as much. I was not convinced the BK or Deltec was twice as good a skimmer.

alpha cones seem better priced, i think in a couple of months when octo gets the cones out we will see the prices change on the cones, imo... they are way overpriced

BK mini vs alpha cone is no contest imo. The mini's i saw were super small reaction chambers and the pump's were nearly stock laguna's. The vertex alpha cone will eat them up.

ATB deluxe 8.5 is $1100; new Oct Cone is going to be about $400. No brainer for me.
you don't have to get the deluxe, you can get the 8.5 v1.5 for $665.00.
$665 for a proven ATB or $400 for a Oct cone? thats a no brainer for me. spend the money now or spend it later when you upgrade.

but for a 275-300g if you only want to get a RE skimmer. I'd get the alpha. if your open to other brands, I'd get the ATB 10.5 v1.5. :)
