BK's 110 Gallon Build

Just finished a 25% water change. That's a chore and a half. I need a better system. Hauling buckets from the basement is not fun!

LOL, that's why I moved my sump to the basement. ;) Before that I set a Brute can right in front of the tank and ran a long hose to fill it, then mixed the salt. When the new water was ready I just drained out the old water then used a submersible pump to pump in the new water. Now you know why I didn't do water changes very often. Hint: every 3 inches from the top water line is 10.1 gal on that tank.

I like your old system a lot better than what I did. I might go to that or mix the water downstairs still then just pump it up.

I was thinking about how to measure how much water I'm pulling out for water changes when I designed the system. That's why my refugium ended up where it is and how large it is. It's exactly 25gal. I pull the cheato, stirr up all the gunk and pump it out. Then I refill that chamber with new water and done.

The only catch is having to take the water from downstairs in buckets. This part is brutal!!!

Looks like it took exactly 3 months to start coralline algae growth my man made live rock. I had diatoms or brown algae on 3.23.13 and now it's 6.27.13. I'm seeing these dime and quarter size patches all over the tank! I'm excited!

This makes all of the work worth it. My 8 month old little frag (Adam) loves eating dinner in front of the tank. I can place him in front of the tank and he will be excited for at least 30-45 minutes about the fish. Any parent out there can tell you that's amazing as kids can last about 3 minutes max with any given toy :)

Awesome pic Ben. It does make the work you put in seem trivial when you have results like that.

Tank is looking real good man.

Ever since my wife saw how much the kid loves the tank she stopped being jealous when I "play with my tank." Haha

I have not seen it produce bubbles but ever since I added the Law Mower Benny the stuff is there one day and cleaned off the next.

Looking good BK! Now I'm kicking myself for not setting up the rock work in a similar manner when I had it. :headwalls:
