I am looking to get some black and white clown fish. My lfs has some for $45 each. Is this the normal going price for them? Also does anyone have some of these and are they just about the same as trues? Any help would be great. Thanks

Black and white clownfish can be numerous species, most are Black and White Ocellaris or Black Saddlebacks(A. polymnus). "True" is typically associated with A. percula which is rarely all black and white.

fwiw: these are juvenile black saddlebacks:

And a whole thread of Black and White Ocellaris:

Pricing is a fairly subjective thing and difficult to compare across regions. IME $45 is in the typical range for B&W ocellaris and average for a wide range of black A. polymnus pricing.

If they are black and white occys then $45 each is a really good deal...at least for around here. I just paid $68 for one.

I'm not sure I understand the excitment & high price over black occ. Saddlebacks & clarkiis come in the same b&w coloration & they are half the price.

Big E, No offense, but someone in your line of work should understand a little about supply and demand. Demand is high (black O's may be riding a fashion high-just like Picasso and snowflake clowns sell for $200 to $300 each), and supply is low, breeders in the U.S. can't keep up with the demand, so a lot of what is available is being imported from a breeder in Australia. Or you can do like I did get a pair of Black O's WILD CAUGHT from Darwin Australia, and pay several hundred dollars.

Yes it's supply & demand but the demand is based on hype & nothing else.

It's called maddening of crowds.........ever hear of Tulip mania? It happens throughout history. The dumb people are the ones that follow the herd.

Btw, it's the same in my business.........the herd always gets burned in the end.

Thanks Matt.

Unfortunately the peaceful nature of such a picture is fleeting..juveniles quickly mature, form pairs, and the peace is over. That group broke down into 3 pairs requiring isolation over less then 1 years time.

Ok I was wondering what would be a good anemone to get for my black and white O's? Also what to feed them and how much water flow do they need? Thanks
Brad

Rose bubble tip anemones are the most popular ~$100,or Carpet anemones work just as well, they are cheaper.Med waterflow.
