Black Bugs will not die, already dosed Interceptor

Hey everybody, just wondering if anyone else has run into these hardy little black bugs. I dosed 6 large breed interceptor pills into a 550g DT, during a 2 hours timeframe and there are still black bugs running around on rocks in the tank.

I bought the 6 pack of interceptor expecting to use two pills. LOL.

If anyone has any other advice for full tank treatments I'm game.

By the way these bugs will tear up acans chalices and zoanthinds with out thinking twice. I think they are a little different than the standard redbug.

Any advice, comments or cautions welcome :)

I have zero wrasses, really I only have tangs in the tank. You could call it a tang dominated tank.

These black bugs hide in the lps flesh though so I wouldn't think the wrasses would be able to eradicate them without doing a serious number on the corals.

I am kind of curious to see what these things look like. I admit I have never even heard of a bug that rips through acans. Can you get a pic at all?

I do not have a picture I will work on that. The thing is these bugs are very very tiny. Think 1/10 of a match head.

They like Montiporas too. I had some bubble algae next to a monti and I noticed them because they were doing laps around the balls of bubble algae. They move very fast and rarely stop moving.

I believe they hide inside the lps and slowly eat them.

I think these made it into the tank on either a rainbow acan colony from Australia or a montipora colony from Australia. But also could have snuck in on some Aussie chalice. I'm fairly positive they came from Australia though.

One other note, nothing has ever made it into the tank without being dipped. Revive didn't protect against these bastards. Now I use bayer and won't look back.

I'm pretty sure the bayer kills them dead but since the bugs are in the DT as soon as the acros montis and lps are back in the DT they rehost them and the cycle continues.

I thought 6 pills of interceptor would have dropped anything, that's one pill per 91 gallons of water. I guess interceptor isn't as strong as I had imagined. I'm ready to go nuclear on these little guys. Some one point me towards the artillery. :)

I know all fish are different but I had these on a monti looked like someone took a pepper shaker to it. Someone recommended a sixline wrasse, so I tried it. I could not believe how fast he took them out. Within a week you could barely find one. If you decide to get one find a small one 1"-1 1/2" they are small enough they cant eat much prepared food at that point and cant bully things although mine has never I have heard of big ones introduced into tanks and being bullies. You may be able to get away with two in a tank that size. Hope this helps

Thanks, at this point I'm willing to try that for sure, the tangs are pretty large too so I'm sure they won't be bullied anyway...

Is a six line the best wrasse for the job? I can have pretty much anything ordered at the LFS.

They do almost look like pepper on the Montiporas. They took out a 17" round monti first and from there have proceeded around the tank to other montipora colonies and random lps. A few like acros too, they took out a prized blue tort colony I had for sometime now.

I personally like melanurus wrasse, they are good at eating pests as well but don't get as aggressive as six line. Plus they look cool.

Hope that you get this thing figured out, cause it sucks losing your corals:uhoh2::uhoh2::uhoh2::uhoh2: good luck and hope you get those b****rds soon!!!

Thanks! I will look into the melanurus wrasse too, whatever it takes to get these taken care of, and if the melanurus look cool that's an added bonus :)

Corals

Corals

How fast are your corals dying I had black bugs on mine for months and they never killed anything maybe stunted its growth, but I didn't lose any corals.

Took about a month to drop that tort. During the month I was in denial. I read a bunch of threads saying "the fast moving tiny black bugs do no damage, and they just like to host the rocks" I found out the hard way that's not true.

In my situation they slowly destroyed a certian montipora I had once that was gone they moved to a few different chalices ( but left many others alone) then I noticed a few certain acros not looking so good, while other acros were doing well. Sure enough the bugs were just picking and choosing what they wanted to munch. Now as of late they have finally acquired a rainbow acan hunger and I'm not gonna take it LOL. Tore up one rainbow acan colony out of 11 colonies. Now that one died and another one is starting to look weak, while the others are flourishing. It's like they have a pack mentality, that attack together one or two victims at a time.
