A year ago i got a Hyppo Tand that had a blackface. I ask different store and they told me that it wasnt a big deal. As he grew the black got darker till the whole fish turn black and only a neon blue dot on both side of the body. I had him for a year and his about 3" long, very happy and eats alot no stress what so ever. I feel so lucky cause i have the most rare tang i have ever had. Has anybody seen this.......He never went back to his color. Beatiful fish..

Blackening of blue tangs is not unheard of i've seen several photos of them floating around on this forum. I believe an active member has a blue tang with extra black pigments in it's coloration. Good find.

There was a thread or two recently about completely black naso tangs...the coloration went 'back to normal' when the fish settled into the new tank, was less stressed, and matured a little.

I understand how tangs change do too stress. I had my Hyppo for almost a year and a half. No stress very active and happy.

I remember having some nearly solid black hepatus come in, but that was nearly ten years ago.

They were 5-6 inches long, IIRC. The "thumbhole" of the palette was still blue, the tail was yellow and there was still some blue on the belly.

I don't remember paying anything particularly outrageous for them, but I don't think I've seen any since. I have no idea if they reverted or not.

Just a single thread iirc the fish just developed a darker coloration which is common in juvi naso sp tangs. The coloration going on with these blue tangs is totally different.

copps had showed us some pictures of hippo with this kind coloration, but all recede or changed with time. if yours is getting darker and very stable it should be a nice fish ... so where are the pics ?

While what the OP is referring to may be different, until we see a pic to know for sure, it's kind of up in the air.

Here are the 2 threads I was referring to. There was actually a 3rd, but it was started by the same person in a different section - so it doesn't count. lol
