Black Ocellaris Spawn

Well after picking up a mixed black and orange ocellaris pair for my new soon to be 29 gallon reef, I noticed that my already existing pair of black ocellaris had their breeding tubes down larger than normal. Their host anemone hasn't been looking too good for the last week due to them bugging it to get better cleaning access to the spawning site. Well I jumped in the shower and when I got out I got a nice little surprise from them. This is their first spawn and they have been in my care for a little over a year now.

Thanks guys, its day two and the parents are doing a good job of watching over the clutch with the male doing most of the egg care and the female guarding the territory. Thankfully they aren't being too overly aggressive.

Yeah its in my 29 gallon aquarium. I would like to raise them but I dont have the time nor the space to do so. If anyone in the area wants a shot at the eggs ill be happy to set a tile in for next time. Below is an FTS of the tank (sorry for the bad quality picture).

I have heard that clean water conditions and lots of food promotes spawning. So that make for lots of water changes. Some say that running the tank a bit warmer, 82 to 84 will hasten spawning activity. I keep my tanks at about 80 or 81 and my B&W's just started spawning. My Occellaris spawn every 12 to 14 days without fail, from spawn to hatch is 7 or 8 days.

Time and good foods helps.

Parameters are as follows

SG- 1.026-27
Ca- 420
Alk- 14 (a little high)
NO3- 0-5
pH- 8.2

Water changes are usually done 5 gallons once a week if im not lazy. If im feeling lazy than once every two weeks, and done with Instant Ocean salt and RO.

All im using for filtration is a Bak Pak skimmer and a bag of chemipure. The lighting is a fishneedit fixture with a 150w metal halide.

To crazy, how long have you had your pair? and what species are they? Im no expert on spawning clowns but it can take some time for them to get started. Especially with black ocellaris, which is why im surprised they only took a year to start.

i started my tank on dec.28 my parameters are still going up and down, so im going to wait a bit longer. i dont have a pair yet, while researching on what type of clowns i wanted for my tank i fell upon people who breed them and found it very intersting. i have seen many people say that their males are eating the eggs, etc.i plan on getting the onyx clowns, they're awsome.

by the way, are those clowns the only fish u have in the tank?

Yeah those are the only clownfish, they share the tank with a argi angel, tail spot blenny and sixline wrasse.

Good choice on the onyx clownfish. If I could find a pair locally I would def give them a try. My male is still tending to the clutch, so hopefully he doesn't get the urge for some caviar, although the fry have no shot of survival when they hatch anyways.

I did raise a small batch of regular Occelaris, I think it was more of a pain in the butt keeping the rotifers going then anything else though. I am going to give it another shot once my B&W's start spwning regularly, this has been the first spawn for them and it was quite small. If you do decide to go with the Onyx you might want to keep it away from any RBTA's. I ordered quite a pricey pair off of a respected breeder and they lost all their black, I couldn't figure out what had caused them to lose their black coloration, they now just look like regular percs. Well a few months back there was a thread here on RC about Onyx's losing their color when put with a RBTA. I can't recall the thread or else I would link it.
