Black spots

Hi Guys!

Bought a pair of clowns 4 days ago and they're doing really well... feeding and swimming round plenty. The only prob is that I got home from work today and the one has two black dots on its body. The spots aren't very big - around 1mm. Both spots are on the same side and are about a cm apart. Any ideas? Thanks

Well it could be Black spot (aka Black ich) which is caused by a flatworm, Paravortex sp.. Treatment is by formalin dips that you can buy at the LFS. Here is a good site for more infomation Blackspot

My clowns got strange black spots on them too when they where trying out different stuff in the tank to nest in, the spots came and went until they got used to the sabae anemone...

Thanks for the link Waterkeeper. I've had a little read and the yellow tang pic makes me think that it's not black ich. The spots on my clown is too big for that, so I'm just gonna keep an eye on it for a few days. Might well be a reaction to it's new surroundings. Fingers crossed eh?!

I have one other question for you guys. Since adding these fish my readings in the last hour are:

Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 0
Phosphate - 0.1ppm

I have a large amount of diatom algae and brownish tinge to the tank. Are these conditions ok to add 10 Turbos? Or should I wait a little more than 4 days after adding the clowns? Many Thanks, K

that's interesting because i noticed them on my clown lately too but the clown does't host anything so i will keep an eye on it and see what happens. thanks for the post because i was wondering myself

my clarkii have them also. I didn't notice them when I first got them but I am seeing alot more of them now. looks nothing like black ich, almost looks like freckles or a miscolored scale.

yep had this before on my Clarkis, and it went away, prob was stung by one of my corals. just curios, is your tank 2 mos old or 2 mos after it cycled? cause if less than 2 mos diatoms and that brown color sounds to me like you are still cycling...Keep an eye on your clowns, hopefully the spots will go away if indeed is a sting.:D
