Bleached BTA

So I recently bought a bleached anemone. I'm very new to this hobby and in my ignorance I purchased a bleached nem. Now that I have it I'm very determined to aid this awesome creature to good health. It mouth looks good and the foot is tight. It does still have a green hue to it, but not in pics. The problem is it has attached itself to the back of a rock and I now cannot see its mouth. Today I'm going to separate it from my clown, it has been in and out of it for two days. I believe it to much for the nem as it had not fully opened in almost two days. I did some reading and found that feeding it is paramount to its survival. I have feed it twice, very small peaces of store bought frozen shrimp. But after the second feeding, two days after it has been in my tank, it really hasn't opened. I have a ai prime over a 29 biocube, no power head, stock return . I'm running the lights 8 hours of sun, 4 hour ramp up from 20K to 12K for 10 min and then back down. I believe at its peak it's 18w.... I'm also running cheato, skimmer, water temp 79-80, nitrate 0, cal 440, mag 1350 dkh 8 pH 7.8. I can't seem to raise my ph? Tank in almost 8 months old.

Don't worry about PH I don't even test for it and neither do many other reefers.

You have a good plan for your BTA, but I would suggest feeding it frozen Mysis shrimp they're easier for it to digest. Don't worry about it being in the light either just feed it every 3 days or so.

Thanks, I'm very new and this is my first bta. I just separated the fish and my nem...... it's still closed. It opens up about half way and then closes. The foot it attached and the mouth doesn't look gapping. I hope it comes back.

They're pretty tough creatures, but I agree with you for removing the fish from agitating it.

Give it a week or two to settle in then add back the fish.

Thanks for your responce! I'm hoping it will pull through. I want this little guy to make it. I also added a power head as I have a Monti at the top of my tank that needed a little more flow. Maybe this will help as well. I wish it would open, I've heard they are the hardiest of all anems.

Yes, but I'm using tapatalk and for some reason RC will not let me out the pic up. It says to large? But other forms allow?

Not so good, closed ant mouth looked open. I pulled the plug. Did not want to do it but I also didn't want it to die in my tank and kill everything in it. It was in a 29G nano system. But over the past week I learned a ton about nems and will get another in time.

I wouldnt have removed it, while it doesnt look right i dont think it was on the verge of death
The mouth was starting to gape. When I frst got it last week it was very tight. I believe what may have happened was my clown may have hurt it. I caught the clown stealing food from its mouth a few days ago and ever since that day it has gotten worse and worse. I personally rather loose one nem and 50 dollars than wake up and my whole tank is dead due to the nem dying in my system.

Ok i couldnt see the mouth, but i agree better safe than sorry. Wish you had a qt tank for it to have gone in.

Good luck

Yes me to, and I truly didn't want to take it out. But I'm very new to the hobby and all I have read said once the mouth gappes that basically it. I'll chalk this one up to a learning curve and drive on. Happy Reefing!

Store bought frozen shrimp... Were these raw or cooked? I don't remember if this is correct or not- but cooked fish/shrimp is not good- if you fed it cooked shrimp it might have gotten sick....
