Blenny/Goby stocking

I have a 125 gallon brackish tank that is getting slowly upped to a full marine. Stock currently is Mono Argentius x2, Colombian Shark x 4. I'm looking for a goby or blenny that is in the 4"-6" range that sifts sand and eats algea. It should also be reef compatible as there will be whisker corals in there. Suggestions?

Yeah, the Valenciennea gobies are awesome, get nice and large and should be able to do well with other bold fish in the tank. There are several diff colors/etc to choose from, most sift sand to some extent.

I don't know of any fish that are especially good at sand sifting AND cleaning algae off the rocks though, you might need a sand-sifting goby and an algae-eating blenny to get the job done.

That's fine with me. I've got plenty of room. I was estimating at least 4 fish to do the job.

What is "the job" exactly. In general, healthy tanks don't need sand sifters or algae eaters. Some snails should do ya. Most sand sifters starve eventually. Good luck with your saltification. Are you keeping some of your brackish fish in there?

The job is just assistance with keeping the sand clean and oxygenated. The Monos and sharks are staying because they require full marine as adults. All of the other brackish fish will get their own tank.

I would go with an army of nassarius snails for the sand rather than a fish. For algae, a mix of astrea, cerith and turbo snails should do ya. A picture of the tank as it is now would be interesting. What do these sharks look like?

wow! Those sharks are far out. That whole tank has a cool look. Will you keep the same sand bed? You could always just keep a 1 to 1 1/2 inch sandbed and vaccuum it with your water changes.

I've got 120lbs of Aragamax in it. It's about 2" deep I would say. I mostly want somthing to keep the rocks clean because I'm afraid I will hurt somthing. I also love gobies, there is a dragon goby in right now but he's getting his own tank because hes brackish only. I love the way they scoot around the bottom through the sand.

You mean your afraid you'll bump something cleaning rocks? That is possible. Most people don't manually clean their rocks. The assortment of snails I listed will do well for you. Also keeping your nutrient levels down is important. You sound like someone who would really like a pair of shrimp gobies with a pistol shrimp. I've heard some say their yellow watchman gobies sifted a little sand. I can't confirm. Also, check out Rainsford or Hectors gobies. Kind of similar to the bullet you have I think. They hover in the water column whereas the watchman will perch on the bottom. I don't think you need to worry about having an algae eating fish. Most of them like tangs require large tanks.

I'm worried I might clean off somthing I shouldn't. I looked at those gobies, pretty cool. I'll give it some thought. They don't get very big and I'm worried the sharks will eat them. I might just get a slew of snails and a few blennies like red scooter, snowflake and the clown jester one. Shrimp are a no no as well, my fish will devour them also. Thanks for the help!

Okay final list comes down to:

20x Nassarius snails
Ember blenny or
Starry blenny

Sleeper banded goby or
Sleeper gold head goby or
Tiger watchman goby

I would like to get both blennies if possible and I'm leaning towards the banded sleeper. What do you guys think?

I've decided that I will get both blennies and the Banded Goby along with the hoard of snails. Any tips?
