Hello everyone,

I read that the Blue and Green Chromis should be kept in a small group of at least six.

My question is, is three of both types can be concider complete group.
And do they get along with each other and stay together in one group.

Thank you,

They should be kept in odd numbers, and I wouldn't do both the blue and the green. You'll have enough trouble with just one color of them, as the more dominant one usually picks off the rest.

How big of a tank do you have? In smaller tanks they tend to kill each other off until only one is left. As posted above they must have separate small caves to hide in at night or they will kill fighting to get their own.

I have had 3 in a 55gal for over 2 yrs. They do not school, they are competitive in small groups. My 3 have settled in with each other and the most aggressive one gets the middle part of the tank, the other two the ends.
They have done well and are all very active.

Schooling is a response to fear, quite often. Without a threat in the tank---and room to run--they won't necessarily do it. If the tank is too small, they just mill about.

I have a mixed group of five in my 150 for 7 months and so far so good. FWIW, my mix is of regular blue-green and black axil chromis. One of the BAs s definitely the most aggressive, but the other 4 and still sometimes the fifth do school during light periods.

My tank is 75gl and I have rocks in there. The only reason I choose to combine them because, on live aquaria, they say that Chromis encourage the other shy fish to swim around, these two are peaceful and compatible with each other.

I also have a blue Tang, and after we moved she has become very shy and stay hidden. One of the member above suggested that Chromis will school if they sense a threat. So the blue tang can be a threat to them.

Any suggestions for any other peaceful fish which schools better, but not the Cardinals, they are very slow and the Tang will finish all the food before they can get to it.

I love blue chromis but have limited tank size (80 gallons) - would it be ok to just keep 1?

I had 10 one time in my240 Allen tank, and over a year or so the dominant one killed the others. I have tried having various numbers a few times with NO luck whatsoever.

Pajama cardinals would probably fit your bill. They're peaceful, inexpensive, and would work fine in a 75g tank.

Sk8er is right. You're not going to find what you are looking for in a 75 gallon. Clowns pair up. Possible a male and two female anthias for a harem, but they will mill about and I'm not sure your tank is big enough. You would also need an oversize skimmer because they need to eat multiple times a day. Even in the ocean an area the size of your tank would be an acceptable size for fish to mingle about.

Any suggestion on
Blue Sapphire Damselfish (Chrysiptera springeri)
or
Azure Damselfish (Chrysiptera hemicyanea)
or
Rolland's Damselfish (Chrysiptera rollandi)
