Blue carpets fading???

I was at a lfs the other day and the owner said from what he has seen is that the blue carpets come in with a really nice blue color and then fade over time. Is this typical? Anyone have one longer than a year and has the color changed?

I believe toddrex's have been with him for like 6 yrs with no colour fade. Maybe the store owner isn't acclimating them to his lights.

Not 6 years, but going on 4 now.

When I first got it,

And fairly recently, as you can see it has gotten a darker, fuller blue. It is currently under 2*250 Radiums in my 58.

I know that there was one LFS in my area has been known for dying there carpets. Todd that is a very nice one you have there.

you have so many its hard to keep track :)

He he he. I only have 5. ;) The oldest one is 10+ years old.

Thanks.

If they are really dying them, I would stay away from getting one of those. Once established they are easy going, but need to get past that 2 month part, no need to start off with one that already has a strike against it.

That is a beautiful anemone. Are there any signs to look for to tell if they are dyed? How do they do under t5 lights?

Sorry, missed that post.

Thanks.

For me, being able to tell if they are dyed is more of a feel type thing, hard to explain it. But, I would guess that if the color is same throughout the whole anemone, and just doesn't look "normal" would be a good starting point.

As for being under T5's, I don't use them (( except for supplemental lighting )), but given the proper amount of them, with individual reflectors I don't see why there would be any issues with keeping them with T5's.

Hey Todd, I'm looking at carpets as well, but scared they will get a little too big.
Can you tell me how big yours are, and how fast growth has been?

Same concern here. I had read somewhere that they can get huge, but the blue one in the picture looks a manageable size.

Their growth can be explosive, but that is all dependent on the amount and how often they are fed. My oldest one (( 10+ years with me )) is about 15" across (( give or take an inch or two )) and has been that size for the last couple of years. I am sure that if I fed it more often it would be a lot bigger. I feed thawed krill about once a month.

15" I can deal w/ for max.
My LFS has a couple gig's which are smaller than mags, think that's what I'll go w/
My sebae at 24" was way too much, and I guess the mags get up to 3'?
I'm guessing yours is a gig?

All of mine are Haddonis. I wouldn't call 15" the max, that is just where mine has been for a while now. But, limiting the feedings really does slow down the growth quite a bit.
