Blue chromis

They call me EC
I'm thinking of adding a group of these fish to a 120 reef. Not the green ones. The blue ones. I'm not much of a fish person, so I have some questions.

1. How many can I safely add to this tank?
2. Are they more likely to stay in a tight group, or spread out across the tank?
3. Some reports say they're delicate, others say they're hardy. What's your experience?
4. Can you share some pic's?

Tagging along. I've been considering these guys or some chalk bass for my new 185.

You didn't ask this, but I'm guessing you would want to know too: Do these guys pick each other off over time like the blue-greens do?

I put 6 of the blue chromis in my 100 gallon sps tank. They do school only if they are threatened by other fish(a little wrasse harassment) but sometimes they will break up. If you buy the from the LFS and they are grouped up already then you don't need to worry about them being agressive to each other. I had them in the tank for a month now and they are doing fine. These are what they call the blue/green chromis buy they seem more on the blue side. They are very inexpensive.

I have had 2 different groups of three, one group was fine together and schooled together, the other group of three were aggressive towards each other. They seem relatively hardy probably depending on how they were harvested and how much stress through shipping.

What size tank were they in?

I too have been interested in these fish. When I inquired about ordering them from a LFS, the owner told me that they do not ship well. So far I have decided not to order them. They are also more expensive than the Blue/Green variety. Has anyone heard anything else about how they fair during shipping?

Okay, that's three of us looking for info on these fish. I'm sure someone out there knows a thing or two about them. Somebody???????? Anybody?????????

I asked my LFS about these a while back and he said he quit ordering them because they are such poor shippers. He said he could special order them for me but said that I would more than likely be paying for a bag of DOAs. It's a shame because they really are nice looking. If you order them be sure to keep us updated.

Yea I never had the picking off problem either, however it is common, and there is more to it than just #'s, size of tank, happiness, food, other fish, etc...

I just got a group of these last week, they shipped here from Florida and were in transit aprox. 24-30 hours, all of them arrived in great condition and were eating pellets within 12 hours, I must say that they were very well packed with lots of water and they are in large size aprox. 3-4".
So I would guess that size and shipping quality is the important factor ( maybe collection method too, but I would like to believe that all collection done in Florida is high quality).

Awesome fish! How many did you get, and how big is the tank they're in?

I just got home from the LFS with 6 for my 120. The link above says you can get by with 6 in a 75, but I still think I may have over done it.

I got 13 for my 240, I originally planned on 8-10 but over ordered after reading they ship poorly, since all arrived fine I might sell a few to a Friend who wants them.
